BODYBUILDING SUPPLEMENTS High Quality Supplements For Bodybuilders and Athletes. www.ironmaglabs.com I had a friend who constantly drank Coke all day long, he had to get his kidney stone removed three separate times.
I always told him to lay off the stuff... http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/22/he...gewanted=print By ANAHAD O’CONNOR THE FACTS It is well known that too much soda can increase the risk of diabetes and obesity. But when it comes to kidney problems, is there a difference between colas and other kinds of soda? Colas contain high levels of phosphoric acid, which has been linked to kidney stones and other renal problems. Much of this conclusion stems from anecdotal and circumstantial evidence. So last year, a team of scientists at the National Institutes of Health took a closer look. In a study published in the journal Epidemiology, the team compared the dietary habits of 465 people with chronic kidney disease and 467 healthy people. After controlling for various factors, the team found that drinking two or more colas a day — whether artificially sweetened or regular — was linked to a twofold risk of chronic kidney disease. But drinking two or more non cola carbonated drinks a day, they found, did not increase the risk. The authors of the study say more research is needed, but their findings support the long-held notion that something about cola — the phosphoric acid, for example, or the ability of cola to pull calcium from bones — seems to increase the risk of kidney stones, renal failure and other conditions affecting the kidneys. THE BOTTOM LINE There is good evidence that cola beverages can increase the risk of kidney problems, more so than non cola sodas. scitimes@nytimes.com |

My mother drank several Pepsi's a day for years and has lost one kidney already, her other one isn't doing too well.........I hate soda of any kind, except for an occasional Root Beer......I just don't see how anyone can survive on that stuff. I need a thirst quenching drink, soda does not do that for me...

I cut back on my intake about a month and a half ago. I use to drink about 150 oz. a day. Now I have that much (or less) a week.
I don't feel any better, but I figure it's gotta be good for me. |

Good man.
It's tough dropping that stuff but after a while you get normalized to not having it. Then you can impress people with your food denial skills. |

Dropping soda is probably the best thing I ever did diet wise.
Haven't drank a normal soda in like 3 years, and I haven't drank a diet soda in over a year. |

True, and I'm sure it can't be good for me, but the study that claims its an carcinogen is pathetic. It was done in the late 70s. It gave daily doses of aspartame to mice (maybe rats) that a human (adjusted for size, of course) couldn't consume in a week.
Practically anything so administered is going to cause problems and probably end up causing cancer. Including sugar. Like I said, it can't be good, and mostly likely is bad for you, but that study that so many people unwittingly quote is so much bunk. |
