sleep paralysis?

i dont know if this is sleep paralysis or something else but most of the time every night when im sleeping i would wake up but then i couldnt move my body.its weird cause i can see everything but my body just wont move.sometimes i see things when i keep my eyes open and i hear voices(no joke).my friend told me that if this happens to just move my fingers and that should wake me up.i did this(i can actually move my fingers only) and it wakes me up after a couple of seconds but sometimes it takes at least a minute or more till i get to wake up and move again.does anyone know why this is happening to me?i know some people who experienced this also but couldnt give me a straight answer.some say its science some say its a religious thing like something bout the devil trying to take your soul away(seriously).thats how it feels though, its like my soul is awake but couldnt get out of my sleeping body. it freaks me out when its happening but then once i wake up its like nothing and i go back to bed.its funny cause sometimes after waking up i would fall asleep right away and it would happen again.

Taken from Wikipedia:

Treatment

Clonazepam is highly effective in the treatment of sleep paralysis.[12] The initial dose is 0.5 mg at bedtime, while an increase to 1 mg per night might be necessary to maintain potency.

Ritalin has been used successfully as a daytime medication to promote structured sleep patterns and the prevention of sleep paralysis in some adults. Care should be taken to monitor blood pressure along with other appropriate tests. Dosage starts at 20mg per day (morning) increased weekly until episodes diminish.[citation needed]

I god damn I have that. Its fucking annoying. I have been able to break out of it by storing up all the mental focus I have then trying to blast myself out of it like an Olympic lift. I'm not joking, it works most of the time.

I have a neurological condition that keeps me from sleeping. I take a high power cocktail prescription drugs every night. Ambien is the weakest drug in the cocktail.

I have had sleep paralysis episodes hundreds of times. It can be fearful, but you are one step ahead of the pack if you decide to venture into lucid dreaming. Being able to achieve mental conciousness and awareness during body slumber is an ability! You just happen, like some people, to have it naturally. Don't let the "devil" talk worry you. Just look through history, look at all the natural phenemon that was blamed on evil forces. I
,m not saying that it isn't possible that other another being isn't present, but that is just speculation and not a thing to worry about IMO. People are often scared by what they don't understand, especially in such an instance as your own.

I too have heard and seen some strange things during that state. People are naturally inclined to be very afraid when they can't move, it is complete physical vunerability! The things that bother you are not physical, don't be afraid. Bravery is key when dealing with sleep paralysis. I don't use the word overcoming because sleep paralysis is something that can be of interest.

I wish I could have lucid dreams on demand.

I have had many lucid dreams. They are interesting, but I always feel like ass the morning after a lucid dream.

Sleep paralysis, as far as I'm aware, is a way that we are protected from acting out our dreams. If we weren't immobilised during dreams we could injure ourselves or others.

I've had it a few times. The first time was many years ago. I felt that there was an evil presence in the bedroom - apart from me, that is - and I made a great effort to move. I sat up in bed and growled and told the 'presence' to clear off. When we find we can't move, the mind tries to make sense of it and often assumes that something evil is in control.

By the way, I am not in the habit of growling in the bedroom.

Apparently my protection system malfunctions, because I am a sleep walker/talker. I am sure most of it is related to my condition. I have started cutting the grass in my sleep, woken up in the woods with no recollection of where I was in my underwear, punched and kicked holes in the wall, ect.

The news covered the story of the congressman who blamed Ambien for running through the police barricade. The story prompted my dad to recall a story of when I was 8 or 9, and he heard me walk outside at 2:30 in the morning. He followed me as I walked around the house then to the woods behind my house then back into the house where I laid back down beside the fireplace.

I still do similar stuff. Everyone I have been roommates with gets a trip out of it. I can't count how many times I have heard, "Dude! Do you know what you did last night?"
