I've had a broken vertebrae and I currently have two herniated disc in my back. The doctors didn't feel confident on operating so I resorted to therapy. Therapy didn't do shit!
I found a pain management doc who prescribed three rounds of epidural injections and they worked like a charm! |

I have a bulged disk in L5. No surgery required, but lots of rest and physical therapy. After months of learning how to deal with it, I was finally able to do legs again.
I just deadlifted 365 on Sunday. |

I have made my weak back much stronger than the average person. I've overcome my squat fear, 405 x 6 on my bravest day. In the process of getting there I screwed my back with just 225 as I leaned to far forward placing the bar on the rack. One more step and it would not have cost me 2 weeks of training and pain. I learned form is from when you unrack to rack back and everything in between. I have yet to overcome deadlift fear though.

What type of physical therapy did you do, any chiropractic. How long did you go without training your legs? |

When that became unnecessary, I saw this woman (with fake tits) who made me do various stretches. Then when I continued to see her, I would stretch AND do some light lower body workouts, like lunges, BW squats. All of this would happen before I saw the chiro. When I first messed my shit up, I saw him everyday for the first week. Then 3 days a week, then twice, then once. I took 800mg of Advil 4x a day and didnt do any weight bearing lower exercise for almost a year. I didnt do ANY workouts for almost 6 months after it happened. There was a sticky thread in General Health & Awareness called "Sciatic Nerve" that had a chronological journey back to the gym, but its gone now....god knows why. |

a lil off topic here butt i have to add my two cents here. a long while ago i shatterd the navicular bone in my foot and broke my ankle. a physical therapist told my i had a low threshold for pain. wasnt till bout a year after it happend that i even found out that i had done what i had done. the therapist treated it like a spraind/straind foot, and ankle. go with how you feel dont push yourself no matter what those fuckers say.

I have a lot of experience seeing doctors and physical therapist over this shit. I could recount my many years of wasted time with the experts. I had to find my answers on my own on the net. To me this shit I post is no fucking less than a miracle in a land of retarded doctors and physical therapists.
Bottom line is it worked for me when all else failed. To me this is GOLD. Richard DonTigny Sacroiliac FAQ http://www.kalindra.com/rounds.pdf From link 1: "......In 1992 at the First World Congress on the Sacroiliac Joint Dr. Joseph Shaw of the Topeka Bank and Neck Pain Clinic reported that in a series of 1000 consecutive patients he examined for low back pain (LBP) and SIJ he found that 98% had an SIJ problem. When he addressed that problem his surgical incidence for herniated disks dropped to 0.2%. .......... " Link 2 kicks ass over anything a physical therapist could ever do. They can do it but it takes them an hour or more to do what I can now do in ten seconds. At the gym I make sure everything is lined up in my hip and back before all big lifts. sounds like you guys had some poor therapists.
Hoglander...that is a good link. We do lots of SI Joint dysfunctions where I work. A lot of phyiscal therapists and chiropractors don't handle the issue very well or they dismiss it as something else (which sounds like what happened to you). |

I have a facet joint problem that feels like my back is locked up like a knee or elbow does every now and then. Some days my back feels fine and others it is contorted with a knotted cramp all day long.....it's really worn me down over the past 2 years, I've tried injections, core strenghtening exercises, phys. therapy and everything else, right now taking pain meds is my only relief.....and I get sick of that shit fast....

It's amazing to me just how many folks have back problems. When you're young and invincible who could possibly get it through your head that you really do have to protect your back. My problem started with a bulging disc and ended up as a ruptured disc. I hobbled around like an old man for 6 months and finally got the surgery to fix it. It really changed my life for the better. I was able to start lifting again eventually, though I still have to be careful. Three sets of lightweight deadlifts will put me down for a week. I just work around my back any more and I'm really glad to be able to lift again.
