year of bad luck

Hey guys,

Has anyone had just a long run of shitty luck? How did you survive? The past 365 days have been almost continually crap for me.

About 5 years ago I got into bodybuilding. I'm an older guy but I hooked up with a great workout partner and fixed my diet. Even though I'm an ectomorph, I packed on the pounds. I was squating 325 on a reg basis. People never believed me when I told them my age.

Two years ago I relocated to South America because of work. I found a good gym and kept gettting stronger. One year ago, I got a nasty virus. It took 3 months to work it out of my system. I returned to the gym and got back some of the strength and weight I had lost.

Then in July I messed up my bursa on my left hip. I had to take a month off and lost most of the gains I had just got back. In August and September I was back in the gym seeing some improvement. But during a trip back to the US to see family, I got the flu. Two more weeks away from the gym.

After 2 weeks back in October, I screwed up my lower back by sleeping on a too-soft mattress. This was followed by a month of physical therapy. The whole time I was chomping at the bit to get back in the gym. The past 2 weeks I've done nothing but machines and super light weight. Total weeny weight but I told myself that it was better to go slow and get everything in order.

Flash forward to today (dec. 1). I've got a hernia on my left lower side.

If I get the op, I'm looking at least a couple of months before I can hit the weights like I want.

The thought of even more time away from the gym is depressing the hell out of me. I know I'm 40 years old, but this avalanche of bad luck just doesn't seem fair.

Crap.
