I vomited blood.
![]() What the fuck! I didn't drink much, only maybe 10 shots of tequila over an 8 hour period. But, I met up some some chicks at a club who wanted to go smoke some weed. I was sitting in the backseat with these girls, and the driver was driving like shit, so I got car sick. When I got home, I threw up and I vomited a significant amount of blood. I have really bad indigestion most days, and I eat tums all fucking day, so I am thinking that I have a bleeding ulcer. Anybody have any suggestions while I work on getting to a doctor. |

That sux! Before you get to worried, visit a doc. Maybe it was a lack of food in your stomach, and the tequila just thrashed your stomach!

Stay away from anything that could irritate your stomach like highly acidic foods, spicy foods, alcohol, too much salt etc.
That sucks though, even small shit worries me let alone something like that. Get your ass to the doc and be sure to keep us updated.

The diet part you got good info on, you need a bland diet, small frequent meals and good fluid intake.
Tums is calcium which can constipate you if you really take lots of it, make sure your fiber and fluid intake is good if you keep on eating them consistently. For now though, you can try to get to the store and get some Zantac or Prilosec (i think its OTC) but get to your doc soon. Do you get abdominal pain around meal times? Try to get a feel for when it sets in, ie right after or an hour or so later? The good news is that they have found about 60% of ulcers are caused by a bacteria called Helicobacter Pylori. The interesting part of the story is the guy who brought this to light was laughed at by the scientific community. So he went back to his lab and drank a culture of H. Pylori to then get the worst ulcer and almost died. Depending on which doc you go to, they will do their diagnostics and such and you may get a couple of antibiotics with a med for the acid (nexium is popular now). That should resolve your issues for good. Some people however just have tons of acid in the stomach (tons of factors influence this like stress, diet etc.) which is treatable/manageable. The meds for this stuff are very effective, and benign; low/no sides (the biggies are GI symptoms like nausea, diarrhea) but can get pricey (Nexium is something like $20/dose).

Sox, kelju, I would say you both have at least acid reflux, which, I believe, can lead to ulcers...I know after a similar drinkin excursion (add hot sauces, lots, and oysters) my girl found her ulcer lol. Go see a doctor, both of yous.. I've learned through experience we all work too hard to not be good to our bodies on the inside as well

Vomiting a significant amount of blood as you guessed is not a good sign. You could definetely have a bleeding ulcer. The only test that will reveal that is an upper endoscopy(EGD) by a gastroenterologist or a surgeon. They run the scope with a light down your Esophagus into your Duodenum and stomach to look for bleeding ulcers.
Where you vomiting or retching a lot before the blood cane out? If yes, you could have a small tear in your Esophagus. It is called Boerhaave syndrome or also Mallory-Weiss syndrome. Heavy Alcohol abusers can bleed from Esophageal varices. I hope you don't fall into that category Just kidding... Hope it doesn't happen again. If it does, don't take it lightly. Get it checked out... |

KelJu how are you doing?
I would say you have an ulcer. I would say you should take Protonix for your acid problem. I would look at your diet real close. I would eat 100% bland, no coffee, soda, seasonings, and most of all ZERO booze. The good news is your stomach heals fast unless you have a huge ulcer. Get in ASAP to get the EGD (ask to be very sedated as you do not want to be aware of what they are doing, and I speak from experience. Get an H.Pylori test to make sure that isn't the problem.....if you don't have it then its your lifestyle. We can't play 16-21 forever....sooner or later your body gives you the big fuck you buddy! |

Well the truth is I didn't want to admit that I never went to the doctor. I lost my insurance, but I am starting a new job in two weeks. I will have to wait 3 months for the new insurance to kick in before I can afford to see anybody.
I agree, it is extremely rude to do what I did. All I can say is I haven't puked blood again, but my stomach hurts alot, and I have a sore throat constantly, and I hope it isn't stomach acid eating up my throat. |

Have you atleast gotten yourself some prilosec or zantac (instead of Tums) or something?
Just to let you know, the sore throat can very well be from the acid and can lead to something known as barrett's esophagitis which may then lead to cancer. Even if you don't see a doc, you can still use some tips that were given in the thread to atleast avoid some of the possible complications (mostly the diet and lifestyle stuff, you want to consult a doc before self medicating of course).

KelJu until you can see a doctor eat a bland diet, don't drink booze or beer,no soda or citric juices, and get some prilosec OTC. Just avoid the things that you have control over and take something good OTC until you can go to the doctor. The stomach can heal itself very fast so if you be a good boy over the next couple months by the time you see the doctor you might not need anything further.

Good luck and get to a doc ASAP. It could just be some bacteria and a simple course of anti-biotics + anti acid meds will heal you up for good.
As well, a very overlooked factor with excess acid production is stress levels. So smoke a bowl and meditate or take a bath or something. But as we've all said get to your doc asap.
