Foam Roller Screwed Me Up?
Okay so here's the story if your interested. Last night I decided to do a full lower body and lower back roll out before heading to bed. And anyone who has ever tried to roll out your entire lower body knows how fatiguing it can be.
So, after I spend an hour in a sex position making humping motions on the floor, I hopped into bed. Unfortunately, I get to wake up to aching OUTER thighs. This has never happened in the past! It calmed a little after I got up and walked around. Although sitting down is the only way to relieve it completely. When standing, the ache would slow creep back. I Googled with no solid matches, coming across IT Band Syndrome, Fibromyalgia in thigh, lateral femoral cutaneous nerve, all the way to hip arthritis. Nothing. Why did I wake up with aching outer thighs that doesn't go away unless I sit down?! |

Did you warm up before you did this? You shouldn't really be doing any soft tissue work on cold muscles, it could lead to no good.
Soft tissue work, if done very rigorously, can incite an inflammatory response. Its good to ice down if you did an especially hard foam roll. or atleast do a nice cool down like stretching and such. The inflammation thing would probably explain why it goes away when sitting, as you are taking the pressure off of your leg musculature and letting them rest. Its pretty hard for me to say exactly what happened to you, but try warming up with some light activity (like bike for 5-10 min), stretch, then ice down. Its most likely going to go away in a day or two.

Thanks Yan and the rest. Sorry Mr. Foams, wasn't your fault. I didn't warm up at all and just went straight to bed after so pretty much did everything wrong there and I did feel better the next day. Thank god because I have training today, would've sucked if I had to skip it.
Also did all that deep massaging go to waste since I inflammated(even a word?) my muscles? |
