Stiff in the morning and sometimes later on in the day

I have been waking up a little stiff in my hips and in my feet every morning. I know I have planter facsiatis in both of my feet and I keep it at bay by stretching throughout the day, but I have been stiff and sore in my hips. I have been stretching out the Psoas every morning a long with my hams, quads, and feet.

Has anyone or everyone else experienced this kind of feeling every morning? I am 29 and am active in lifting and cardio as well as with my two little girls.

How do you sleep? Side, back, stomach, etc....

Do you have (or have had) any back problems?

Stretching out the Psoas AND the hamstrings can be a tough call since they both do two different things to the pelvis; meaning, stretching one may counteract the length you gained from stretching the other. This is why you need to know which one to stretch.

My sleeping habits vary. I prefer to sleep on my front but sometimes wake up on my back. I am a deep sleeper and roam around from my front to my back.

I have very comfortable shoes and I stretch my feet two to three times a day. They are only sore in the morning only if I do a lot of walking/running the day before and work my feet a lot in carrying large objects a good long distance.

As far as my hips, most my left mostly, I feel a pain/discomfort in the hip area consistantly if I lay on my back and just turn my left foot from the left to the right. It feels like it is the Psoas or something on the inside of my thigh. At times I feel it again if I am standing and move to go into a different direction, like taking a step 90 degrees to the left to walk in the direction. It doesn't hurt if I got 90 degrees to the right.

I have not had a history of back pains.

Hmm...do you by chance have any posture pictures of yourself?

Try this tonight:

1) Sleep on your back and place a pillow underneath your knees - this will help to shorten the hip flexors. See if that decreases you problems in the morning.

2) do you sit all day at work?

I do sit a lot at work. I will try to pillow tonight and see what happens. Is their exercises that I can do to strengthen my hip flexors? I hate having this feeling of "Old" with my hips. After doing some exercises with a rubber band, in various directions, the discomfort goes away and I will not have the problem until much later on...after the pump or burn, sort-of-speak, goes away.

I was able to isolate it when I lay down and twist my left foot from left to right....very consistant in that motion.

P-funk, you are awesome with how much you help people and I was hoping you would see this post and throw your two plus cents in. Thank you.

I don't have any on me. They are back at home with my posture.

I would try and stretch your hip flexors and strengthen your glutes (just guessing since we don't have posture photos...I am just going off the fact that you said you sit a lot through the day).

This blog post has some stuff on breathing techniques that may help you with your back problems- OSP Blog » Blog Archive » Back In Action!
