ACL surgery next week

No questions here...just telling you about my knee....

I will be celebrating Cinqo de Mayo by having ACL surgery. I pretty much DESTROYED my knee playing deck hockey: Torn ACL (needs reconstruction), slightly torn LCL and MCL (both will heal on their own), slightly torn meniscus (needs stitches). I had my pre-op appointment today. The physician's assistant was impressed that I was able to so completely thrash my knee. I've got prescriptions for five drugs: Oxycotin and Percocet (for pain), Motrin (swelling), Keflex (inflamation), SCOP patch (nausea). I've got a new brace and new crutches, and I ordered a AirCast Cold Therapy device so I don't have to keep icing. I'll be out of work for two weeks.

If you didn't know, I'm an avid cyclist. I'll be off the bike for three months minimum. My summer plans are pretty much shot. I have to cancel on a half marathon on May 31 and 100 mile MS charity bike ride on June 7 (both paid for). I had a four day mountain bike trip booked for July 4 weekend. That's gone. I was planning a couple of 24 hour mountain bike races this summer. No way I can that now. No gym for 4-5 weeks (I lift four days a week and cardio three days). And, there is a good chance my deck hockey days are done.

But, there is good news! I'll be fully recovered in six months, so I'll be ready to go for next ski season. And I can still attend the American Craft Beer Festival in Boston on June 20.

In case you were wondering, deck hockey is organized street hockey. Pretty much the same as ice hockey, but you run on plastic rather than skate on ice. I was just running behind the goal net and my knee popped. There was nobody near me...my knee just gave out. I may have just been pushing myself too much because I skied all day prior to my hockey game. I ain't complaining though...my sister has MS and spends most of her time in a wheelchair. My problem is just a knee. I'll heal.

And yes, Yankees suck.

Hope you heal quick.

How does one hurt their knee on Table hockey like that?
