Taking things help with inflammation (which may hinder healing) and/or pain. They are a band aide for an underlying cause. WHY are the joints hurting is the question. That comes back to understanding how you move.

My recent 5 x 5 really did a number on my joints. I've moved from the 5 x 5 to UD2 that has me working with lighter weight most of the time, but still, I've got some lingering joint issues. Especially around the shoulders. And wierdly enough, my right elbow.
This never used to be a problem, but alas, I'm going to be 41 in June.
I'm already taking 6g of fish oil a day.
What else could I take to help with this?
Thanks.

My joint issues didn't emerge until I started lifting heavy. Never an issue previous to January 2009. I'm thinking that's it.
UD2 has me lifting four times a week -- twice with weight that's 60% of 1 rep max with high reps, once with about 70-80% with mid-range reps, and then once heavy with low reps. I figured moving from 4 or 5 heavy days a week to just one would reduce the pain. It has pretty significantly, but it's still lingering a bit.
To be honest, I thought joint discomfort just kinda came with the territory of lifting heavy and getting older.

Nope, weight training should not hurt.
It sounds like you had some poor program design in the past (going heavy to often).
It may still linger until you actually give yourself a break in the action and let the body calm down a bit. Of course it doesn't help that you are dieting, which means you can be impairing the bodies ability to heal by keeping calories low which, aside from limiting the nutrients coming in, also puts some stress on the body to a certain extent.
The entire program should make sense. This stuff should not be painful. People make it harder than it is.

I had never lifted consistently heavy before the last 5 x 5 program so maybe my body just wasn't prepared.
I probably should have taken a break before UD2. Stupid.
I'm actually getting more rest from the gym, but I think in general, UD2 puts a lot more physical and mental stress combined on you since it's so damn rigorous.
I need to last 6 more weeks. Then it's the end of this cycle and it's break time.

glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM?
Anyone take this?

I'm hearing some very good things about hyaluronic acid taken with MSM and vitamin C.

I just picked up the generic CVS brand that has all three listed on it.
Will give it a shot.

For me, Super Cissus RX was the way to go. Within 1-2 months, all my joint pain was gone. I used to have terrible wrist pain, which made it hard to bench and curl, and also had problems with two of my fingers, due to martial arts injuries. Now, the pain is completely gone, and it feels like I have brand new wrists. It also has been pretty good for my knees, which were constantly sore for a couple weeks.

i megadose on fish oil. It takes a while to actually work, but it really helps. I'm currently taking down 15g.
