on a constant bulk

I made some steel cuts oats this morning and the mircowave directions were .25 cup oats .75 cup water mirowave for 3-5 min. I did 5 and they were still a little hard. This is the first time I've eaten them so I'm not sure if that is how they are, or if I did something wrong somewhere (ie measurments, time). Not much flavor, does anyone add anything to give flavor?

For flavour - I like them plain!! But cinnamon goes well... Lots of people like cinnamon + SF maple syrup too... (But I must say that SF maple syrup + oats + PB is VERY GOOD! ). |

I tried that - they came out all THICK. I bought them bulk in the health food store - do you think I need to rinse them first? really, I can cook! I don't know why these things give me such a hard time! |

Yeah, I'd try rinsing them. I've never bought them in bulk. I've only bought the brand name one which I can't remember the name now LOL! I buy regular rolled oats in bulk though and usually next to the barrell are the standard cooking instructions.

Everytime I try Steel Cut Oats in the Microwave they always flow over the top of the bowl, even if the bowl is really big.

Homer: Hey! I saved your life! That egg sandwich could have killed you by cholesterol.
Lenny: Pfft, forget it, Homer. While it has been established that eggs contain cholesterol, it has not yet been proven conclusively that they actually raise the level of serum cholesterol in the human blood stream. |

I make them a week in advance like it suggested. That way I have them ready each morning.
