I have oatmeal most mornings before I teach spinning. Sometimes I add some protein powder...

    Thanks!

Thanks Lioness. Nice avatar. We kind a go together...
    ANYWAY......
I've dressed it up eight thousand times over: with splenda, with honey, with strawberries and bananas, with peanut butter and bananas (in a gain cycle), with chocolate protein, with orange protein, with coconut protein, with cookies and creme from Muscle Milk, with chocolate and peanut butter Muscle Milk....and you know what? It comes out to be the same boring wallpaper paste, er, oatmeal.

Okay, so not the most healthy, but oats will not taste like wallpaper paste when soaked in yogurt and then eaten with PB and Nutella.

    Oh dear...did i goof?

I don’t have a lot of experience with cooking. So…when I read this recipe, it sounded like I would be making some sort of breakfast~oatmeal dish. I had it in my brain that it would be like the topping of an apple crisp or cobbler.

I got up and started making it for breakfast for us. I’m such a dumb *ss.!!! Mine turned out to be granola bars!

One of my children crumbled it up and added rice milk…like cereal. He liked it.

Me and another child got creative. We added LOTS of berries (blackberries, blueberries, raspberries) with the berry juices…mushed it around some. Then added a tiny bit of rice dream & a scoop of protein powder.

    DANG…it was actually good!

Thanks for the recipe. I have SOOO much to learn in the kitchen.

I'll make it again...just not for breakfast.

    Baked Oats

    (This recipe yields 4 servings)

    4 c. old fashioned oats
    1 c. chopped apple
    1/2 c. chopped walnuts
    1 tsp. salt
    4 c. water
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. dates (optional)
Combine oats, walnuts, raisins, and salt in a bowl and mix well. In a separate container combine water and vanilla. Combine all ingredients, stirring gently. Pour into oiled 8" x 8" baking dish. Bake at 350 F for 60 minutes. Stir in dates and serve.

    Cold Breakfast Oatmeal

    (This recipe yields 1 serving)

3/4 cup rolled oats (non-instant and uncooked)
3/4 cup skim milk (may use rice or soy or almond milk)
    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 packet sweetner of choice (optional)
1/4 cup dried or fresh blueberries
The night before your breakfast, mix oats, milk, cinnamon and sweetner (if using) together in a cereal bowl. (If you are using the dried blueberries, go ahead and add these the night before also making sure they have plenty of liquid covering them.) Now cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge overnight.

In the morning, add your fresh berries (if using) and stir gently. Enjoy.

yeah that would make a huge difference if that's the only thing sweetening it up!

i usually have some granular splenda around for baking, but ran out during the holidays...

p-funk tried it and said, "Wow. this is actually good. DAMN good."

Lol, have you tried the brown sugar Splenda? I don't usually like Splenda, but I love the brown sugar kind. Actually making up a batch with some brown sugar Splenda, Enova oil, and sugar free maple syrup.

i have some of it, but it isn't pure "brown" splenda. It is a mix of splenda and brown sugar. It's a "blend".

I think equal makes a brown sugar substitute called Sugar Twin.

You can make faux brown sugar using splenda and sugar free maple syrup.

Hmm. Using sugar free maple syrup, brown Sugar Splenda, and Enova worked well, but I'm still experimenting with this recipe. To reduce some of the oil, you can add low sugar yogurt, InStone Protein Pudding, unsweetened applesauce, or sugar free vanilla pudding.
Additional things: dried or fresh fruit, protein powder, milk, sugar free syrups.....

Definitely granola-ish. Not gooey at all! Crunchy! Smells good. But i didn't get to taste it. Ask P-Funk if it tasted good. He is the only one in this house who knows.
