i used to hunt a lot but haven't in a few years. i'm getting ready to buy a bow and get back into it. i'm not sure if i'm going to go with a longbow or a recurve.

Not I, although I'd try it if given the opportunity.

took up bow hunting about 8 years ago. i love it. No deer yet but it's fun just to see them walk in front of you.

Jk35, 8 years and nothing yet? Persistent bugger aren't you?

Step into the 00' and get a compound.

I had a recurve as a kid and recently bought a compound and love it. I got two with it my first year.

Craft,

Let me tell you.... It's a blast. There is nothing that I have found that'll get your heart going as much as this.

It's amazing to get "up close" and personal. It's kinda like the differance between fishing and diving. Fishing you just pull em out of the water and diving youre down there with them watching them and just about touching them.

If you want to bow hunt, do it like a man. Standard stave and string. No pussy pullies. You pull back what you can pull back.

Only pull back 40? YOU ONLY PULL BACK 40! Dont get a pully system to pull back 80.

That said, i dont hunt because i see no thrill in killing innocent deer which are completly defensly, nor do i see a thrill in killing a dying species (bears).

i've had some shots, last year missed an eight pointer from about 12 yards. I was on the ground. didn't think about the shot. aimed for the middle when i should have been low on his body. went over the deer by inches. Ohh well. will be trying again in about 3 months.....

I would like to hunt sometime, but someone would probably shoot me by accident. I think I will stick with fishing even though my buds like to cast the hook at me. *duck*

Don't let the pulleys fool you. 80# is still 80# when you are pulling on it. The cam allows for a % of let off after you get the string back.

I'll leave this one alone... Everyone is in-titled to their own opinion. I'll respect yours as long as you respect mine.

One of the guys that works for me is a bow hunter. He hunts bears mostly, and I believe in 2 weeks he will be on a hunting trip.

I told him that if he didn't bring me any bear meat back, that I would see to it that he doesn't get a raise this year.

(Oddly enough, he was putting together some arrows and smiling quite devilishly at me the other day.)

Bear hunting? That sounds a little dangerous

I'm not going to tear this apart either. But, I do my part as a conservationist by hunting. We are the only remaining predators of deer (in most states) and without a system of checks and balances, the deer population will explode. When this happens, many will die from disease and starvation or by hit by automobiles. So, which is worse? Hunting or the other alternative?
