The war of words between Jets coach Rex Ryan and Dolphins LB Channing Crowder continues
Read more: The war of words between Jets coach Rex Ryan and Dolphins LB Channing Crowder continues

The verbal ping-pong match between Rex Ryan and Dolphins LB Channing Crowder continued Wednesday, adding more fuel to the Jets-Dolphins rivalry. Imagine this: Trash talking in June. Between a coach and an opposing player. It doesn't get better than that.
Crowder, speaking to the Miami Herald, fired back Tuesday at Ryan, who earlier in the day pretended he never heard of Crowder - but took a few shots at him anyway.

"Oh, Lord have mercy," Crowder said. "What's wrong with him? Now he's talking about preparation? We play them twice this year. If he wants to be prepared, shouldn't he know the starting middle linebackers of his division rival?"

Crowder scoffed at Ryan's comment about how he'd "handle him" if he was younger.
"He says he'd take care of me if he was younger?" Crowder said. "I'd have beat the hell out of that big old joker. Or if he really wants to get retro, my daddy or my uncle could have handled him. Don't get big. Win with preparation? Start watching some tape and learn who your rival is. Come on now."

Not to be out trash-talked, Ryan walked into his news conference Wednesday at minicamp and immediately launched into his Crowder rebuttal.

"Let's see if he can top this one," Ryan said. "I've walked over tougher guys going to a fight." Later, he added, "He can send himself and his father after me."

Up in Foxborough, Bill (Rings) Belichick was asked about Ryan's recent remarks. If you recall, Ryan said he isn't intimidated by Belichick or the Patriots and isn't planning to "kiss Belichick's rings."
Belichick's response? Let's just say it was a lot less colorful than Crowder.

"I have a lot of respect for Rex, what he did in Baltimore, the defense his team has played," Belichick said Wednesday. "We've always had great battles with the Jets, so I'm sure that will continue. It's a great rivalry. They beat us up here last year. They kind of got the last punch in on that one, so we'll have to ... It's a new year. Right now, we are more focused on Buffalo than any other team in the division because we open with them, but we know we're going to have to deal with Miami and the Jets as well, and we have a lot of respect for all those teams."
My peeps familiar with Belichick's thinking say he will absolutely use Ryan's quotes as bulletin-board fodder during the season.

I don't know much about Rex Ryan but I like him already. Seeing how I am stuck watching the "local" teams every Sunday (Pats, Jets, Giants...all gay), I am looking forward to next season.

He's Buddy Ryan's son and boy was he colorful.
One of my favorite coaches ever...even when he was the Eagles coach.

Jets reach contract agreement with rookie QB Mark Sanchez

The Jets have reached a contract agreement with rookie QB Mark Sanchez, the team has announced.

The Daily News has learned that Sanchez has received a five-year contract that includes $28 million in guarantees.

This makes Sanchez the highest-paid player in team history.
It's believed that Sanchez' deal averages close to $9 million per year, bringing the total value to near $45 million. He can earn more with incentives.

That Sanchez signed for five years, not six, is surprising. Most quarterbacks in the top 5 get six years. Sanchez sacrificed some guaranteed money by taking the shorter deal, but it gets him to free agency one year earlier.
In other words, there's risk and reward for both sides.

For some reason I get the feeling he will flop.

Posted by: I Are Baboon

That's good news on Sanchez...none of that dragging things out crap.

Flop or not, Rex Ryan will help make my TV viewing more interesting. I hope he and the Jets do well though.
