just a quick question, so when your calculating your protein requirements should this be calculated on lean body mass of total body weight?? i was always of the opinion that it should be lean body mass as fat wont need protein? but have been reading conflicting things that say your should calculate it from total body weight

Most use lean body mass

I go with total body weight because the pro req wil be higher, meaning you end up eating more on a weekly basis.

I always went by total wieght, even when cutting. Its a lot easier to get specific macros as opposed to having your best guesstimate at LBM

You should go by body weight, and just use simple multipliers like 2 grams protein per pound. If you are very fat, adjust the multiplying number, no need to make things complicated.

LBM including the bone mass.......how are you calculating your LBM?

Nope still wrong. You want 1-2 grams (of course this varies depending on where you read) of protein for every pound of lean body mass. LBM is your weight minus your pounds of fat. Just multiply your weight by your percent fat. That gives you your fat pounds. Subtract that from your total body weight and that gives you lean body mass. Then multiply your LBM by how many grams of protein you want. Fat does not need protein or calories for that matter. Yes...this is a little anal but some of my personal training clients are 35% fat so that is a lot of extra weight that I do not want to feed.

I'm with sohel - feed the part you want to keep.
