The shark thing i actually a form of attack that they have developed. White pointers (especially famous for this in South Africa) will "ram" from underneath a seal, in an attempt to break its back to render it totally helpless and then leisurely eat it. Kinda scary though, a ton and a half of tuna on steroids getting that far out of the water. I've seen images with the sharks actually in the air (fully) it looks like it's flying. Freaky SHit!!!

One of which is the _______ (damnit) islands off the coast of SF I think about 60 miles. They do this to supprise the prey from underneath, they follow below to try and avoid detection, and when they find something they like on the surface they build up speed and voila, you see them pop out of the water. I don't recall the speed they hit but basically its the fastest a shark will generally ever hit is doing this, and according to the scientists there are only a couple known spots where they do this, and the two areas are similar in geography as far as the actual land in the water.
So basically the whole show was "what are they doing and why do they only do it here?". Was on one of the nerd channels. I'm up past my bedtime so I can't recall the damn island name though, and I live here
