A guy at the gym recently was giving me advice on how to increase your vertical. In addition to deads and squats(which i already do), he suggested that i do these hip lever extension excercises . Not knowing the exact mechanics of jumping myself, i don't know if i should incorporate them or don't even bother......any suggestions

I highly doubt itll hurt your vert. looks fluffy to me. how about high box jumps?

Did he tell you how working the hip flexors is going to increase your vertical? This is a good exercise for speed. Might add half a centimeter to your vertical.

Power cleans are good for vertical, of course squats, and well, jumping. Get one of those vests you can add weights too and jump.

I'm not sure how squats or deads could help your vert. I would think more explosive movements would be the way to go.

Squats and deads are the foundation for oly lifting. They definitely help your vert.

I understand they're the foundation for all movements. I still don't believe they will have any significant impact in a vertical jump.

It would seem simple enough to me that in order to improve in a specific movement you would want to train that movement. Maybe by doing jumping exercises with resistance or explosive calf work.

Just building a stronger muscle doesn't mean you'll jump higher or run faster!

No. If you can't jump now, you will never be able to jump. Consider switching to a sport that doesn't require vertical skill.

Where did you see deads?

And I don't know of many more explosive exercises besides power cleans.

And did you see where I said jumping?

I inserted deads as I think they're relative to squats. Power cleans I can see as some benefit. And yes, I did see where you said jumping and I agree.

I think deads would help because they work your posterior chain, mainly lower back and glutes which are involved in straightening the body and create momentum for jumping imo.

build some muscle in your legs lower back, core, upper back and shoulders and then do plyo to turn the strength base into power.

plyo isnt that good if you havent got the strength first

serious oly lifters are going to have serious verticals. It would take alot of plyo work, jumping squats, and other supplementary work not to mention alot more time to compare to a clean or a snatch.
