i dont believe that a 15 minute HIIT session can greatly increase EPOC so im sticking with long runs. Today i did a 2.5 mile run alternating every 30 seconds between 4.5 mph and 7-7.5 mph. I am gradually going to build up to 4 miles, then 5. By doing these intervals and a 300 calorie deficit do you think I will be able to lose the last 10 pounds?
fyi: running 7-7.5 mph consecutively for 5 minutes would be very very difficult for m

Yea that's a great way to lose more muscle mass. You should be hitting your goal in no time especially if youre not concerned with lean body mass. Hell cut your calories by another 300 to speed up the effect.

Why are you worried about epoc? Did you just come across it and think it sounds like a good approach? If youre trying to just lose weight, then run your heart out. If youre trying to hold on to as much muscle as possible, a five mile jog is a sure way to chew up some muscle while running a caloric deficit.
You said you were going to bulk in a month. ????
So are you just trying to lose weight or lose fat?

Two days ago, you mentioned that you were going to start a bulk.
Drizzy, it is necessary that you identify what your needs and goals are---both short and long term. Once you are clear what you want to do, you can then apply the proper diet and training protocols in order to achieve those goals.
However, your goals cannot go against what is possible. You bulk to put on muscle and fat, and then you cut to get rid of the fat.
It is critical for you to understand that you cannot 'grow bigger' and 'get cut' at the same time.
If you need help deciding if you should cut or bulk, feel free to ask questions to help you reach a decision.

I would reccommend a nice Male Cutting Plan by "Dr. Pain" followed by a nice clean slow bulk also found under his former posts...
Do a thread search on the user "Dr. Pain" and read up =)
You will greatly appreciate it, trust me! The results don't lie!
