Why are they so small?

I scanned in some photos and they're too big, even as jpegs. I don't think the quality or size will be good enough if i make them any smaller.

Posted by: Prince

because I am running out of disk space!

if you use a program like Paint Shop Pro you can shrink images down to 40-50k without sacrificing quality.

Posted by: Mudge

Prince, do you bulk delete old stuff?

Oh my god, I can't believe you linked to Fosi Warez! LoL...

I use the Kodak Imaging program and I've taken 160kB photos down to 50-60kB and they still look great.

Where do you get that? Is it downloadable?

Posted by: w8lifter

I've got it

Posted by: Prince

then why would you want Kodak Imaging?

Posted by: w8lifter

I don't know Just wondering if it's better

Posted by: Prince

the only program better than PS Pro is Adobe Photoshop IMO.

I'm not suprised.

You need to get rid of that shitty adult photos section. What a useless waste of bandwidth.

I actually have adobe and my photos are still coming out too small when i re-size them.

Does anyone know any tricks they can help me with?

how do you know it's shitty?

Posted by: Robboe

It's probably no differet from what the photo gallery used to be like, only you actually see the beef curtains and nipples.

Big fucking wow.

Free porn is on the net in abundance.

This is a weightlifting/bodybuilding/diet/fitness/health site.

Anyone can get porn anywhere else. Who gives a toss about seeing it here?

You're just wasting bandwidth.

Posted by: Prince

interesting comments, because I seem to remember you posting quite a bit in the Picture Gallery before I changed the access.

Posted by: Robboe

1. I posted occassionally. I'd guess about 10-15 posts the entire time, unless related to a member photo.

2. I posted because of boredom for the most part.

3. I couldn't give a toss if it's not there. In fact, if it meant you would increase the file size i'm able to attach i'd welcome the change.

4. I can't see that happening since you've already charged some people for it.

You gave them a flat fee at the start, right?

What are you gonna do when it expands so much that the money they paid simply doesn't cover your costs?

Hey, another thing, since making photos a paid service, have you noticed a reduction in new members signing up?

Yes.

The reason the access fee was implemented was to help cover costs of the Picture Gallery.

Not really.

No no, its just a simple little program and the default compression (adjustable in incremements of 100 I think) works very nicely, very easy to use, just the minimal features (no fancy Photoslop stuff), it comes on most Windows installs now, Start > Programs > Accessories > IMAGING

I agree...most new digital cameras are 4-5 megapixils. That's a lot of k's to reduce!

Posted by: Prince

I can get images down to 40-50k without sacrificing hardly any quality that is noticable to the naked/human eye.

Posted by: Mudge

Pretty much agreed, I can tell some slight mudging of colors and quality on some of the pix I did (which were a little large in resolution) but overall they still come out very nicely around 60k, most of my stuff was coming from about 130-50k or so to 57ish, so I didn't end up cropping them at all, looked fine just compressed further.

Well tell me how the hell you're doing it in paint shop then cause I can't

Posted by: Mudge

Bah, I don't use Paint Shop I've used it before, I consider it more a drawing program, I just use the compression slider in Kodak Imaging and the default almost always chops my stuff down to 60kB...

Prince? Where is the compression thingy in PSP

I haven`t actually done it yet, but if you open the program, open a pic, go to "image" then down to "resize".

Posted by: Mudge

Dude, you often dont have to make the pic smaller, just compress it further as far as visual color data, JPG uses lossy compression to block things that most humans dont see/pay attention too, which is how JPG is so much smaller than TIFF and yet it looks "the same" or damn close.

Posted by: Robboe

Ok then, back on topic.

Which of you savages wants to help me resize these frickin' photos?

Posted by: kuso

I can TRY if you want to email them to me.....no promises though

Posted by: Prince

Paint Shop Pro is a drawing program? Are you think of the Paint program that comes with Windows?

I am talking about Paint Shop Pro 7 by Jasc Software, it's a pofessional graphics program very similar to Adobe Photoshop.

http://www.jasc.com/products/psp/

You just use the image export and you can choose the degree of compression on a jpg image.

Posted by: Mudge

Yes I know PSP, I used to use it way back when, and I could swear it had a paintbrush in it. I think the last time I would have used it was 5.x or maybe 4.x. Its the "cheapie" Photoslop. MS Paint? I'm not that stoopid!

Posted by: w8lifter

Okay...if you read the help files...you can do so much more than just the basic stuff *has to get over ADD*

Posted by: NickB

whoa. prince dude. Telling your members to download warez, then linking to it can get your site shut down extremely fast.

Posted by: NickB

I just dont want to see the site go down, this is a great one :]
