when bulking what should the % be? protein 50% carbs 30% fat 20% or protein 50% carbs 20% fat 30% or something else?

Posted by: Mudge

Depends on you, whats your bodyfat %

Posted by: raider6969

by bf ia around 12%

I think many people will do a 40/40/20 40 protein/40carbs/20fat Arnold was a fan of the 40/40/20

Posted by: raider6969

if i do a 40-40-20, wont i be consuming too much carbs? and not enough protein?

Posted by: Mudge

For me that would definately be too many carbs, "not enough protein", what does that mean? You put in your protein then follow the ratios for everything else, if that comes up to too much carbs then change the carbs not the protein, he gave a percentage not a number

Figure how many calories and how much protein you want during the day, then work in some percentages and see how that falls into what you want in total calories.

40c/30p/30f is fine.

right now im eating 3000 cals a day, i wanna bring it to 4000 ,going up 250 per week or 2 weeks. i weigh 212 lbs,6 feet, 12% fat around. right i divide my cals as 50% protein , 30% carbs and 20% fat. is that good enough?

Posted by: Mudge

If your 12% bodyfat sounds like your doing just fine to me. If you want you may wish to keep the percentages the same and just scale them up your 200-250 calories (every 2 weeks you said?).

So if your bodyfat is not increasing, your energy levels are fine, I'd probably say stick with it because it seems to be working!

if i start losing fat i should add more fat ? if i start gain fat i should eat less fat and more protein? how exacly does it work?

Posted by: The_Chicken_Daddy

It is cheaper and just as effective to lower protein to 30% and raise carbs up to replace them.

Once you're over maintainence calories the difference won't that noticeable, if at all. except for cost. Unless you're using androgens of course.

Once you're chowing down about 1.5g protein per lb of bw there's little need to go higher.

I agree with Chicken Daddy....leave the protein alone and up the carbs keeping a moderate amount of fat in the diet. I would say most of the additional calories should come from carbs.

Worry about the low carbs when cutting.

Posted by: raider6969

with 30% protein, i wont be geting 1.5 g/pound, more like just over 1.13 g/lbs. is that enough?

Posted by: raider6969

sorry i made a mistake,at 30% is less than 1 g per lbs.right now im at 3000 calories and ill go up to 4000. at 3000 ,30% is 900 cal ,which around 180 g of protein. i weight 212 .
