Braves are division winners They are hitting a lot better this year and the pitching is still pretty good. I bet they take the grand prize of baseball this year. If anyone still cares though hehe...

As much as I hate the Yankees, they just KNOW how to win when they need to. I give them the nod.

the Braves? We'll see.... We'll see about that one!

I'm a Atlanta fan. But with the way the A's have been playing don't count them out!

Not at all, but I don;t think the Skanks will get beaten two years in a row.

The Braves are a sure win this year. I just called Ms. Cleo and she confirmed it.

The Yankees will take it again this year.

I doubt it. They always seem to fall apart in the post season. they may win the division but I don't know if they'll go much farther than that. JMO though.

YANKEES all the way baby!!!!

You guys are silly. Tsk Tsk Tsk.... No matter though. Atlanta is going to plaster that ball time and time again this postseason.

Atlanta is a team built for the regular season, sure they win a lot of games to get to the post season but when the pressure is on they fall apart. look at last year when they played the Diamondbacks in the NLCS and tried to have Glavine and Maddox both pitch on three days rest and fell apart. Pitching and Experience are the two keys.

Even though some new members to the Yankees don't have as much post season experience, they are still the deepest team. Sure the A's and Angels are hot but we will see how they perform in the post season. Just look at how the A's have handled the pressure the last two years with the Yankees.

I believe it will be the Yankees in the AL and it is a toss up between the Diamondback and Giants in the NL, but ultimately the Yankees will pull it out in the end! Yes a little biasis but they are still the team to beat even after blowing it last year.

That is true about Atlanta the past few years. But with Sheffield and several others they are deeper and are a better hitting club this year. They pose a threat all the way through the lineup. And Millwood right now is pitching better than Maddux or Glavine. So their pitching is still to be reckoned with! And one of their relievers has an era under 1.00 and not to mention Smoltz coming out of the bullpen! I think Atlanta has a very good chance to win it all!

I agree with everything dg806 wrote. Plus the Joneses (Andrew and Chipper) are hitting well also.

Oh and I was a Yankee fan before I moved to Atlanta. I no longer don the cap though.

personally i don't think that Shefield scares to many teams. plus there really isn't any other deep threat in the lineup so teams can simply pitch around him. Chipper is not putting up the same numbers are usually and Jones strikes out to much for teams to be afraid of going after him.

i give kudos to the relief staff this year, they have finally got some depth. i also give all the credit in the world to the transition Smoltz has made to the closer role, but it is not like his is invincible. To many times this year when he has come into games with more than a one run lead (still a save opportunity) he will give up a run here and there.

Milwood is pitching great but Maddux is very hittable and most likely will probably not be resigned next year. Glavine started out on fire but has really cooled off and is showing signs of being tired.

Onto other NL teams, if the Cardinals get hot in the postseason look out for them. There lineup is very deep and could cause a lot of problems for teams. If only their pitching staff can hold it together. The Giants also have a potent lineup but again their pitching staff is not golden. Now the Diamondbacks probably have the best 1-2 punch and sets them up great for postseason play, but the lineup is nowhere near what is was last year (and I really didn't think it was all that great last year).

AL - A's have the studs in Zito, Mulder and Hudson with the emergence of Liddle they pose a threat, but the bullpen is not their strong point so if you get past the starters they are hittable. Lineup is solid at the top of the order but pretty weak from the number 5 hitter on. To be honest the Angels have suprised many people this year and it is a toss up if they can handle the postseason play. Minnesota is still about a year or two away from contending in the postseason. Yankees have the deepest starting rotation and the most proven bullpen (especially since Rivera will be activated this weekend and order will be restored). Bulpen was 12-13 in save oppportunities while he has been on the DL. Lineup is solid with only one or two holes at the bottom of the order. They have the leagues best on base percentage, most runs scored and are second in team HR's. Soriano and Jeter are gonna be hell on teams in the postseason. Hell they will have the most 100RBI guys in the league as of yesterday - Soriano (98), Giambi (114), Williams (96), Posada (94), Ventura (95).

In short they will win it all this year, 5 times in 7 years!

Wrong..............I watched the game last night and they had talked to the owner and they asked him what his "A" plan for next year was. He said resign Maddux and Glavine. Then they asked him about plan "B". He said there was no plan "B". Sounds like confidence to me!

Wouldn't trust Ted Turner once your back is turned! He is the one that makes all the decisions on who is signed and who is not. Hell would you want the entire league to know even before the season ends that you may not be able to resign you most proven starter in the last decade. I will believe that when I see it happen!

Posted by: dg806

Good point! But I don't think they can afford not to! Who will they have to replace him? I think they would get rid of Sheffield or some other hitter first. That has been the way they have done the last ten years!

Besides, I think they are like the Yankees. Money is no object!!

Posted by: Yanks20

you may want to take a better look into the financial situation of the team. they are owned and operated by AOL/Time Warner, which when i last check is going in the shitter. they are gonna make a lot of cuts and i'm sure baseball is right up there.

don't get me wrong i think it would be one of the most boneheaded moves if they don't resign him. he still has a couple of good years left, but i just don't think they can do two large contracts and will have to decide between the two. i hope i'm wrong cause i cannot see either one pitching for a different team.

Atlanta is just not a team that constantly retools their team. they stick with player that are way beyond their prime (First Base). their minor league organization hasn't produced any major talent since Jones. Look at the Yankees - Jeter, Williams, Posada, Rivera, Johnson, Soriano all homegrown talent that will continue to produce for years to come. hell even Juan Rivera is gonna be an above average outfielder in a year or two, then and only then do they go out and fill the gaps with majore free agent deals.

most teams should look at the way the Yankees spend their money. grow awesome talent in the minors, fill gaps in the lineup with free agents and spend outrageous money on your pitching staff!
