I did deadlifts for the first time today, oh what a feeling!! Just like squats, it felt awesome!! But, I found out today that I was doing them wrong in one area of the lift, according to the deadlift (or was it back) training article...you don't place the barbell down on the ground after each rep???

DANG!!! I had no idea and all the books and forums didn't mention keeping it off the ground until you were finished with the set. Is this correct???

I like to keep the load on the muscle, someone posted a few months back that to them it was better to let it down, I prefer to keep load. The hardest part of the rep is getting started to me, when your body is under the constant load/tention though you just work your way through it, but as far starting over every rep, not for me!

I feel it puts un needed strain on the lower back when touching the ground

I like to tap the ground with it.

I sometimes tap if I am doing SLDL and I don't have a platform.

I think when you try both methods though you'll see what I mean about the strain thing...

I can understand why it's good to keep going, instead of starting the whole event for each rep. I'll try just tapping the ground next time. I'm still amazed how I felt doing deadlifts, I felt a real good adrenaline rush.

I also tap the ground and do racked deads with the pins set at just below Knee level and pile on the weight every so often.

The best is banging them off the ground really hard so you get the bounce and can do more weight

yup, laying an old spring-filled matress under the bar helps a lot ..

I think you're more likely to pull a muscle when dropping the bar all the way down ..
touching the floor in a controlled manner wouldn't hurt ..

I think that if you keep the tension on the muscle, you're getting more stimulus out of this exercise.
Ofcourse, don't do static stretches with 450lbs either ..
