I have heared many different things about portein shakes. I know protien is needed to replenish your muscle cells but is it as good as most people say it is

do you need protein? Yes

do you need protein shakes? maybe

protein is a macronutrient, just like carbs and fats. Others will add to what i said, as i don't even know where to start explaining it.

Real food is better than protein shakes. Protein shakes should only be used once or twice a day. Try to get enough chicken, fish, lean beef, or eggs before resorting to a protein shake.

the problem is that most people cannot eat enough protein (from food sources) so they have to use shakes and bars to supplement their diet to get adequate protein intake.

as far as building muscle protein is they most important thing.

I have a shake a day, post-workout. As has been said, try to eat "real" food more often though. that's where you'll get most benefit. My shake typically includes:

7 ice cubes

8 oz. fat free milk/lactose free also go easy on my tummy!

2 servings of American Whey protein powder, chocolate. (one serving according to the nutrional info on the back of the bucket is "up to the line" which is about half-way..so I just fill up the whole damn scoop heh)

half of a banana

and 2 big spoonfuls of natural PB - crunchy, oh yeah!

sometimes I'll eat some ham or chicken with it too, but not a whole lot...mainly to counteract all the stuff in the shake that gives me tummy rumblings.

I have three shakes a day one as an mid morning meal one pre workout and one post workout. I need the shakes because they are quick also It fills me to the point where i am not hungry or not stuffed
