Mario Lemieux has 27 points in 11 games so far this year. That puts him on a pace for about 200 points this year. I doubt he'll keep that pace up, but it's great to see him playing so well. I hope he can stay healthy.

I completely agree, Mario is THE MAN.

BUT

Hockey is a team sport and when Mario finally hits a slump, which he will, who's gonna step up and fill his shoes?

GO FLYERS!!!

I agree with you ALBOB but there are 3 Penguins among the top scorers. no doubt he has something to do with it but he hasn't been a one man team. Kovelev(sp?) has been playing good hockey.

Well, the new rules are a direct result of his whining isn't it?

I mean, where has he been for the last few years. Now that all of the "clutching and grabbing" is gone, he shines.

Hmm...

Yeah, he's great, but I still hate whiners!

New rules, what new rules? The rules are pretty much the same only now they are trying to enforce them better. we'll see if that works.
The last few years? Wasn't he in retirement? and the whining, I don't believe he is the only one. I think most of the good players had a problem with the clutch and grab. Brett Hull has been complaining about it for years. I think its good to finally see some hockey where the truly talented players will excel.

Agreed but I've talked myself into believing that Kovalev's numbers are gonna drop off BIG TIME when Mario's old legs start to give out. When the Mario threat isn't there other teams will be able to key on Kovi and shut him down.

On the other hand, the Flyers have potential 50 goal scorers all the way down to their third line. Now THAT'S a team.

Sorry guys, I'm a defenceman by nature, and I'd rather see games with low goals instead of some of the blowouts.

Of course, clutch and grab isn't very exciting, but it would be nice if defencemen were at least still allowed to clear out the front of the net without getting penalties. That's just pointless. May as well put duct tape over the goalies masks. I think the truly skilled players are the ones that can score regardless of which rules are enforced in any given year.

But that's just lil' ol' me.

I understand where you are coming from animal, I too play defense. what the league needs is some middle ground and to be more consistant.

Yeah, middle ground, as in "the middle of the ice". Do away with the red line and THEN watch the game pick up some pace.

Sorry to you defensemen but I completely disagree on the "excitement" factor. 1-0 games SUCK !!! I think the game should revolve around offense. Again, I'm sorry to the defensemen out there but goal scoring is where the excitement comes from. (In my humble opinion.) That's what made last night's travesty so unbearable. Not only did the Flyers lose. Not only did the Flyers lose to the Devils. (I hate the fuqin' Devils. ) Not only did the Flyers lose to the Devils on a third perios goal. But it was a God damn 1-0 game! I'm SOOOOO freakin' pissed!!!

Umm...............Yeah...............What were we talking about?

Posted by: animal56

Ahhh... 1-0, by arguably the best defensive team and best goaltending in town!

Yea, I hate the Devils, but I hate Philly even more! (And besides, Brodeur is my #1 goalie in NHL 2003!)

Go Canucks!

Oh yeah............well....................women's hockey sucks..............especially Canadian women.

Mario is the man right now but it's early. Maybe we should call on Kelly Miller to come out of retirement I think it only took one hit! Ha Ha!

I also play defence and I like the new rules. Being one of the faster player`s in my league, I`m a rushing defenceman and when I get caught up pinching I have the wheels to get back unless some asshole is hooking or grabbing me enough to slow me down. If your a faster skater you should have the advantage and I hope they stick to this new rule, it will be a faster game once everyone adjust to it.
