Deep frying a turkey

Does anyone know if deep frying a turkey causes the same amount (or more) of trans-fatty acid absorbtion as fried chicken? Since the turkey isn't breaded and the outside is basically seared immediately, I wouldn't think so. Any thoughts?

I believe most of the oil will be asbsorbed into the skin.

I have done it for several years now! We had an old thread somewhere on this. It is not greasy at all! Nice and crispy it is seared......the juiceiest turkey you will ever eat. I will never go back to baked again. Not even close! BTW, you use peanut oil because of the high smoke point(you deep fry it at 350 degrees for about 3.5 minutes per lb)

God damn, I need to deep fry a turkey!

You inject liquid seasoning into the turkey at several points. I use a creaole one. Louisana style.......kinda warm but man is it good. I also put some over chicken when I bake it! Best you will ever have!

Most Lowes or home depot carries turkey fryers for about $100. And they are healthy. Bass Pro shops carry them too!

How can deep frying a turkey be healthy.

The oil turns into transfatty acids once it reaches a certain temperature. Some oils turn quicker than others.

I was in an "Outdoor World" when I visited Florida last week. Cool store. We don't have them up here. Too bad I don't hunt, fish, camp, or boat, or I would have really loved that store.

yeah cool store!! There is one here in Charlotte. I need to go by this afternoon and get some marinade for my turkey. It gets gone fast!

Well very little is absorbed in the skin because of the searing that takes place when you put it in the oil. There is none in the turkey at all. Just good juicy white meat!! Not dry!
I would guarentee that once you tasted it, you would never want a baked one again~
