Calcium supps & Indigestion

Not sure if this should be in the Supplements forum instead, but anyways...
Dairy gives me allergies, so I avoid it. Of course this means I need to make sure I get enough calcium, so I started buying calcium supplements to take daily. Thing is, after some months of using various brands of calcium, I've noticed that they tend to give me indigestion. Symptoms vary slightly, but it's generally bad stomach cramps and/or a bloated feeling, also in my stomach.
Do any of you know anything about this? The cramps are a bit irregular, meaning I don't get meactly the same symptoms everytime I take one. However, the latest brand I bought seems to yield the most frequent results - they're capsules made sort of some awful-tasting vegetable coating.
Has this ever happened to anyone else? Is there a specific kind of calcium supplement that would be less likely to give me indigestion like this? If not, what foods should I eat to make sure I get all the calcium I need (excluding dairy)?
Thanks

PS - I take I multivitamin/mineral everyday and do NOT get any side affects. I get about 16% of my Calcium RDA from it (Centrum).

Check the form of the calcium in the Centrum (Yuk)....that may be what you have to resort to that.

Calcium is best absorbed with food because of the HCL your stomach produces, however....it does buffer this a bit, maybe your problem?

Calcium carbonate is very msunderstood and I prefer this form. Any amino acid chelate, citrate, malate, gluconate.......in theory should work.

Most protein powders have 6-15% RDA per scoop, check this, also the darker green the veggie, the mosre calcium it usually has

Vitamin D and magnesium increase absorption. Also, calcium is best absorbed while sleeping and when the blood is least acidic. So, take it before bed with fiber and drink more water.

Best taken with a meal.....increases absortion by up to 30%

Chicken Daddy didn't seem to think so. I just stopped replying. People on forums seem to get into debates over who is right instead of what is right.

It was bollocks.

The most hGH is released in the last 4 or so hours of sleep anyway, by which time blood sugar is low. (The hGH is actually released because the blood sugar is low).

There is nothing wrong with late night carbsif they fit into your meal plan.

More like a "Plucky Fucker

GH is Spiked during REM Stage 3 and 4 sleep, WHENEVER that occurs in a persons sleep cycle. Although usually later as you point out, not necessarily.

And I am of the camp that restoring glycogen and thyroid functioning (see reverse T-3) take precidence over GH.

We did have that go round about gastic emptying versus gut absortion times....you WILL find that L-Leucine will exert a small, miniscule glycogenic effect for up to 7 hours.......not compromising or hindering GH much....as that is miniscule also. But yes....it also depends on what you eat.

TCD....do me a favor and don't respond!
