I cant think of a better title but last night when I woke up for my usual 2am potty break I was friggin HUNGRY! When that happens should I grab a quick protein shake? It sucked..kept me awake for about a half hour!

suggestions?

Are you eating right before bed? If so what are you eating and are you getting enough fat in it?

I used to always wake up hungry late at night also. Lately I have been eating half a cup of cottage cheese with half an apple about a half an hour before I hit the sack. So far it has worked pretty well.

I have a shake right before bed. Protein with 3TBSP of half and half (they didnt have heavy cream) but that's still 9g of fat.

Should I up the fat a bit since this is happening?
Thanks by they way

Try eating some whole food before bed.

Logic being that in a shake, the fat (whether its flax, heavy cream etc) will not slow gastric emptying as it will just sit on top of the protein/water in the gut.

Thanks Yanick! So I'm thinking tonight I'd having tuna w/mayo since I'm having two shakes today. Fingers crossed

Try adding some fiber also. So try a salad or celery.

Cottage cheese is also a good choice because of the casein.

Studie have showen that casein clots in the stomach and provides a slow release of amino acids in your blood stream, that makes it an ideal before bed snack.

Yeah the key words being some fiber. To much fiber could make that late night bathroom break a little longer that you want.

Oatmeal, prunes and apples sound familiar? LOL

but unfortunately it's not the prunes that would kill me it's the cottage cheese. I can tolerate very little dairy or I start losing friends.

I'll try whole foods before bed in lieu of the shakes and see how that works out!

Yeah sounds very familiar. For those who want to know what Yan is referring to here is how this unfortunate incident played out:

I love otmeal, especially with fruit cut up in it. So two weeks ago on a I was telling Yan how that Saturday on my card up I was going to eat a cup of oatmeal with some of my favorite fruits. I woke up Saturday morning etremly excited to start my carb up off with some of my favorite foods. I made the oatmeal and put in it 1 bannana, prunes, and raisens. It tasted so good however this little experiment left me on the toilet the rest of the day. kids don't try this at home, you might get hurt.

ps to Yan,
Thank you for helping me re-live that painful day. The next time I see you you're dead. Oh my god you are so dead it's not even funny.
