My son Wrestles for the Jr. High team. He has been wrestling at 118lbs all season. And he ranks for the "A" team every two weeks. He beat out the #1 kid at 118lbs and will be wrestling tonight on the "A" team. I know this may not seam like much, but I've been telling him, that he could beat the other kid if he wanted to. It's all in the desire. (They were both the same level of wrestler)

That's cool

very cool!

Real Cool! I'm working with my GF's son on "drive" and "desire to succeed" and what it takes!

Posted by: IPMC

When my son started wrestling, I coached him for 3-years........He knows what a fanatic I am about desire and drive. He has the drive that it takes, but is still a little intimdated by others. He is only 13, soon to be 14. I'm hoping that he grows out of that soon. When it comes to wrestling practice, this boy is an animal. He goes to the school at 0700hrs every week day to practice with the Jr. High kids, for about an hour and a half. Then at night, (4-nights per week) I drive him bout 15 miles over to another small town to practice with a coach that is known for producing state champs. And those practices last 3-hours per night.

It was a good match, I attribute his loss to being young and making mistakes. I'm just glad he didn't give up..........before the pin, the score was 2 to 2.......each kid had one takedown.....

That's great for your kid though. Who cares that he lost. He's out there giving 110%. Competing at that age will help him in life down the road. Good for him. Besides, if he's only 13, he's got plenty of time to get a whole lot better.

Thats a fact brother.......his goal is to go to West Point. And he knows that sports are a big part of it. His wrestling now is a precurser to his high school wrestling.

Tell him to not give up!! Keep working hard!

Well, Jesse wrestled twice tonight and beat both kids. pinned his first match and went into double overtime to win his second. So that means he advances to the finals in this tourny. Well be wrestling tomorrow.

Great news man Sure he lost, but he kicked ass to get there, and as you said, he didn`t give up!!!

Posted by: IPMC

After his last wins, I decided to keep this thread active by just adding his progress every week. He has really turned it on the last half of the season. There are only a few weeks left in the season right now.

Well, I got to the gym early last night to watch the duel. I went straight back to the wrestling room and said my hello's to the coaches and spotted Jesse practicing. So went back into the gym and had a seat. Our team started out with 3-pins at the first three weights. (Great to see). Then Jesse came up for his match.
(Keep in mind he is wrestling up one weight, at 118lbs. At his weigh in, he was 116.6) The kid he was wrestling looked heavier than him in the uppper body. Jesse won the match going all three periods with a score of 9-0.

WOOHOO! Congrats to your kid! He's the tourney champ, right? Did he get a trophy or anything?

No trophy, just a pat on the back and a nice big dinner when he got home. He has a room full of trophys from elementary wrestling days. In Jr. High there are not many trophy's. But he's happy that he is progressing. And I always tell him that he is good enough to beat anyone.
