I'm 41 years old and just started lifting weights about a month ago. I'm a fat 320 pounds on a 6'2" frame. But that's gonna change...

I am trying a whole body workout a la Ripptoes Strength program - Squats, Bench, Deadlifts, Bent Rows and Presses.

I read the stickies - Thx Prince and Built - nice to have some help and guidance.

I have arthritis in my hips and it affects my lower back but I am not going to let that stop my progress.

I wish I had started earlier and understood when I was younger the information that everyone on here has to share. But I'm taking it to heart now.

You're already 10 years beyound a lot of guys on here. Keep to those core exercises, start 5X5 once you're balance is solid and worry about cutting fat in 3 months. You're going to lose a ton without trying anyway.

Welcome

Prince is great. if you have any questions just let me know i am willing to answer any questions. Remember, nutrient timing is completely irrelevant. Diet=90% of your results. rest is exercising and motivation :P

Hit your macros within your calories as best as you can daily.

Best of luck

Thanks guys.

Diet - that is the main problem with me and what has lead me down a negative path. I need to get my diet in check. And portion control - lol

Last night I was bored and actually had another person in the gym so I tried to feel out some 2 rep maxes.
Squats - 365lbs Bench 245lbs Deadlift 225lbs

I have some other issues - like sleep apnea - that I have gotten under control and that have really made life changing differences. I was going to post on them today.

you should take it easy. Increase the weight gradually to a point when you can take it without getting into huge effort and pain.
Eventually your body will adapt and will be able to move forwarad
