Steel Cut Oats?

While I realize that this has probably been asked before, I can't find any reference to it anywhere.
Q: What is the difference between steel cut oats and conventional oat meal? I assume that one is relatively intact and the other "meal", but what would be the nutritional difference. Carbs? Digestability? GI impact? Second, where can one find this stuff? I'm guessing that South Carolinians like their oats pulvarized... might have to head north, or "steel" some from my horses. heh heh.

Steel cut oats look like little pebbles...a little smaller than grapenuts. They are less processed than regular old fashioned oats...so better for you. They are higher in calories and carbs than old fashioned oats because they are more dense.

1/2 cup old fashioned oats has about 30 G carbs w/ 5 coming from fibre.....steel cut oats is almost double that for the same amount.

You can find them in health food stores and bulk food stores. Some larger grocery stores will sell them but they're expensive there.

Okay, I got ya.
However, would these be any better for someone such as myself who is trying to lose fat via a relatively low carb intake? Or should I stick w/ regular oats in the a.m. for now?

Well....these would be better...you just don't need to eat as much of them.
