Ok just started working out a couple weeks ago. Question, is it ok to eat things like rice, white bread and pasta? I was staying away from all the white stuff but my trainer told me it's the best way to put on muscle. I have some fat to lose also. I told him I wanted to put on a lot of muscle and get my body fat down to 10%. Talk to me guys!

Well i've personally never been able to gain very much muscle while losing fat so i'd decide which is more important for you right now gaining muscle or losing fat.If I was trying to gain muscle i'd eat pastas and breads and a lot of protein. If I was trying to lose weight then little or no bread and no pasta but as always a lot of protein,So carbs yes or no?Depends on your current goal.

putting on "a lot of muscle" and getting your bf down to 10% simultaneously will be difficult.

Well I don't care how I get there. Does not have to be at the same time.

Well I say lets start with this. What is your stats right now. Height, weight, BF%, age and what does your current meal plan look like. Post the entire meal plan listing it per meal. Don't worry about how bad it is right now or anything. Just post the whole thing. From there myself and others can show you how to clean your diet up. And no, white bread, rice, pasta and potatoes are not going to get you to 10% BF.

5'-11", 186lbs, don't know body fat, 30 years old. Right now I eat as often as I can...4-6 times a day. Things like tuna, peanuts, chicken, wheat bagels etc.

Write it out like per meal so we can see what you are eating per meal.

Example

Meal 1:
2 Eggs
3 Egg Whites
1/2 Oatmeal

so and so forth. It will be easier to make diet changes and recommendations. BTW - I eat and train to lose BF and I gain muscle at the same time. The muscle gain is slower than if I was bulking but it still can be done.

I can't because it's so inconsistent. Can you give me some examples of a good meal.

Posted by: Jodi

How bout you write out what you ate yesterday. I just want to see what you are eating on an average.

I'm going to write it out for you tomorrow I'm on OT at work right now. Please look back at this tomorrow and reply when you get a chance.

my 2 favorite low GI high fiber carbs are lentils and black eye peas.

lentils - 9 grams of fiber per 1/2 cup cooked

black eye peas - 10 grams of fiber per 1/2 cup cooked
