Is Chromium Picolinate an effective supplement? I'm trying to bulk and I read that it is good for muscle mass, is this true?

Chromium is a trace mineral. It is involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates and fats and is used in the production of insulin in the body. Chromium is absorbed in the body best when it is taken in a form called chromium Picolinate (chromium chelated with Picolinate, a naturally occurring amino acid metabolite) The average American diet is chromium deficient. About 90 percent of the population does not get enough chromium from their food.
(Food sources of chromium include broccoli, brewer's yeast and shellfish).

The high-sugar diet, typical of many Americans, can increase the excretion of chromium, leaving less chromium in the body. Because it is involved in the metabolism of glucose, chromium is needed for energy. High levels of sugars in the diet cause
chromium to be excreted through the kidneys, so it is important to get enough in your diet if you eat sugary foods.

I'd like it if you could show me the evidence that 90% of our diets are defficient in chromium.
Chromium is indeed absorbed best in its picolinate form. There are some studdies to suggest that Chromium Picolinate can assist in insulin efficiency in some people with NIDDM. (Non Insulin Deppendent Diabetes Mellitus.)
There are also a plethera of studdies that show it is useless.
In 1996, the American Diabetes Association produced a statement climing that Chromium supplements could only assist people who were defficient in chromium to begin with, and that taking extra chromium is of no advantage. They did however conceed, that approximately 40% of people with type 2 Diabetes were defficient of this mineral, which was supposedly why is proved effective for them.
Back in the 70's there were a handful of studdies done by Dr Gary Evans, using Chromium Picolinate supplements on weight training.
2 or 3 of these studdies suggested that the group taking the supplements gained more lean mass than the control (placebo) group, however, there have been a mountain of studdies done since then that dispute this.
Ever since then however, many supplement companies have quoted those few studdies done by Dr (now Prof) Evans, & have exagerated the results.
They conviniently forget to mention that every study done since has shown this supplement to be useless.
One should note that Dr Evans was the person who actually developed Chromium Picolinate supplements, & then pattented it to the US Government. As we can see, he had a specific financial interest in promoting this product.
For some reason, I see Chromium Picolinate commonly promoted as some kind of fat loss supplement. This is a joke.
Has anyone else ever used Chromium Picolinate supplements?
