NEW YORK - St. Louis Blues forward Keith Tkachuk has been suspended for four games, and will forfeit $487,804.84 in salary for a cross checking incident involving Minnesota Wild player Wes Walz in NHL Game #918 on February 23, 2003.
Tkachuk, who was suspended for one game in March, 2002, now is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and forfeits salary based on the number of games in a season (82), rather than the number of days (180). The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Tkachuk was assessed a match penalty under Rule 43(a) - Attempt to Injure, for delivering a cross check to Walz' head area at 17:47 of the third period.

"Mr. Tkachuk is a repeat offender who used his stick in a dangerous and inappropriate manner," said NHL Executive Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell. "Blows with the stick to the head area continue to be unacceptable."

Tkachuk will miss Blues games Feb. 27 (vs. Edmonton); March 1 (vs. Minnesota); March 4 (vs. Nashville); and March 6 (vs. Phoenix). He will be eligible to return on March 7 at Detroit.
