Protein replacement

OK, a serious question...

Since the wife lost her job and is now a full time student, we need to cut back on "unnecessary spending". Which translates to less money spent on my supps. I know $60 a month is not much but 1/2 of that is going to be cut out. So, here's my question... which is the best to cut out and replace with a food source... my 45g with breakfast or the 45g post w/o and before bed on non w/o days. Here is a breakdown of my meal plan

1. 3/4 cup oats w/ 45g protein, 16 oz water and 12 oz black coffee
2. salad and chicken/meat loaf/steak/porkchop etc (one of em)
3. can of tuna and 1 cup brown rice w/1tbsp olive oil
4. salad and beef or turkey (ground and lean)
5. can of tuna and an apple
6. 45g protein and 1 tbsp flax

Basically the protein in meal 1 or 6 is going away and I need to supplement a food source, but I don't think I can eat anymore meat or tuna! I eat anymore tuna, I'm gonna be a tuna!

Any ideas?

Lean - IMO Whey is cheaper than most protein sources. I don't know what kind you use but I use Optimum and its less than $30 for 5 pounds of it. Cheaper if you buy 10lbs at a time but I don't know the price. Check out DPS nutrition or one of those other sites. Each scoop is 22G Protein.

Thanks Jodi! I think I wasn't very clear in specifying my spending. I spend $60 a month on just protein. I buy 2-5lb tubs and now I'll only be able to get 1. Make sense? I get it through a local discout store (I get Prolab Whey for $32, and DPS sells it for $25 I think).

I'd switch meal 6 to cottage cheese?

The math here says that protein powder is cheaper than food. 2 Scoops approx 44 grams of protein, almost 36 serving per container for $25 is less than $.75 cents a serving, show me how to do that with anything other than eggs or cheap tuna?

I agree...this amkes no sense...if you're trying to save money then you want the cheapest protein source which according to my calculations...hmmmm....would be whey over eggs, tuna, chicken, cottage cheese, etc. You guys need to look at the complete picture....if whey is cheaper eat more whey...not less

Make sense????

Makes sence. I didn't really look at the long run. $30 in chicken will not last a whole month! Eggs maybe, but then you got to look at whites only. I gott use my brain more often, that's all! Thanks for the replys!

Yep, powder is almost always cheaper than food, especially if its not mass produced (processed) stuff. I find Tuna on awesome sales sometimes, but the sodium is something I'm starting to watch.

lean man, 5lb here for $25, and 10lb for $46!!

I wonder if it's worth it to buy that when you factor in shipping. ...and exchange...I'm sure w/ CDN money we'd get screwed, but we pay $60 for 5lbs right now...and go through a lot...

There is a contact I have here in NS...5lbs Optimum Whey for 50 tax in...pretty good I think

Kuso - I've tried the Optimum protein and didn't like me very much. I just ordered 2-5lbs tubs of ProLab from DPS and with shipping it was $54. That's the cheapest I've found it on line (with shipping). That's even cheaper then I can get here at the local discount store.

W8 - holy shyt! Did you ever think of going to Buffalo and bringing it back accross the border? Or know anyone in the states that could order it for you and ship? Got to be a cheaper way don't you think?

Well, get stuffed then

In my opinion (which I know is oh so valued here @ IM) Optimum's the most cost effective/efficient product I've run across thus far.
