I have heard that also DP. I have never heard of carbs helping to secrete HGH during sleep.

DP, do you have any articles I read about this?

Because it is a horrible, horrible article. Andrew's got the right idea.

The article writer (not stated on that page) is quite mis-informed about physiology. He's on the right idea, but comes out with a lot of myths.

And by the way QOS, he doesn't say eat carbs pre-bed for hGH. He says eat carbs pre-bed if you have trouble sleeping (and he's a bit right - it has to do with seritonnin). His info about taking carbs post w/o to enhance the anabolism from both insulin and hGH is rather fucktarded also, since the presence of insulin in the blood (actually, carbs for that matter, not just insulin) totally halts hGH in the blood. So you can't have both at once. Not for any significant amount of time anyway.

Oh, and he's also trying to sell you something, which nine times out of ten renders an article completely useless.

Not that it matters much, however, since hGH response from influences doesn't make much difference anyway. Injecting the stuff on the other hand...

Reading profiles for most of the pro bodybuilders, in magazines and internet, is pretty confusing, they seem to be eating complex carbs and protein with low fat, and than there is the high fat-protein diet, low-no carb, so my question is do you choose either carb or fat...or I was reading Lyle Mcdonald dairy after doing CKD, he suggested for his readers to do something balanced like the zone.

One of my fellow trainer, retains more water eating fat-protein than protein-carb. Surprising huh!! instead insulin nessecary for muscles, and carbs cause more thermo compared to none from fat.

If you are an active person, why cannot you eat carbs at night, and still stay lean.

there is no reason to be concerend with what the pro bb's are doing, they all use drugs, the majority inject hGH daily.

I agree...you cannot go by the pros...they'll have a huge carb/protein meal followed by an injection of insulin, etc.....definately not the advice a natural lifter should be adhering too.

As for the HGH....I agree that you will influence it VERY little from manipulating diet. I think that this issue has been taken out of context since the media bought into the HGH arguement.

As for staying lean....IMHO....if you are active....AND are in a caloric balance or deficit it will make very little difference if you eat carbs at night. A lot of that too has been exagerrated. As I you have heard before everuone is different...some can eat carbs at night and be lean...others may not be so lucky.

Again...as for the long-term maintainence stage I think you need a balance of protein, fat, and carbs. Have you ever tried something like a 40/40/20 breakdown of protein/carbs/fat. If you are active like you say I think this would work well for you. Within the carbs I include vegies in my counts just for your info. Fat can fluctuate from 20-25%. This gives you plenty of room for a constant supply of vegies, lean protein, slow burning carbs...and it also allows for a 'reasonable' amount of fat as well as some dairy (if it agrees with you) and some fruit.

Remember that I am discussing more of a maintainence strategy. You wouls likely want to slightly lower carbs if cutting....IMO....something more like 45/30/25 (P/C/F). This info is different from a lot of the 'Board's) recommendations but it has worked well for me as well as many of my clients.

Good luck QofS...glad to see you posting again!

i agree with Rob, thats why i like a isocaloric approach (33/33/33 P/F/C) for maintaining. When bulking cutting carb/cal manipulation is what i use.
