hey guys, i just bought a 5 pounder of double rich chocolate optimum whey. what do you think? i haven't used this brand before. does anyone else use it?

Posted by: Wolfpack22

I just got some in that I ordered, but I haven't tried it. I've heard it's prettygood. I got one chocolate, one vanilla at a total of about $50. How much did you pay?

Posted by: Fit Freak

It's good...but since you bought chocolate you won't be able to add fruit to your shakes...other than bananas.

Yes why?

Strawberries, raspberries, cream or peanut butter all go gr8?

So does Orange or mint extract!

And cold coffee works if that is your taste!

sorry fitfreak, but im a sucker for a pretty girl, ill beleive w8 on this one . oh and i payed $30 bucks at a local nutrition store. GNC wanted like $45 and so did this other place. but i could find it 5 bucks cheaper online, but then you gotta add shipping. i suppose i got an ok deal on this one, better than that nitro-tech shit....

Posted by: Fit Freak

I have to say I have never tried berries with chocolate...how does it taste?

If it's good maybe I should consider buying some chocolate....vanilla gets boring...

Posted by: Dr. Pain

Tastes good, esp frozen berries!

DP

Posted by: DaMayor

Everything's good with chocolate!

Posted by: Badger

I love the O/N brand. I've had both the choc and van. Just ordered another 10# bag. I never tried the fruit with the choc either. I'll have to give that a try real soon (before I run out of choc). I payed 52.00 for the 10# bag by ordering online. GNC wants $45-$50.00 for the 5# bucket. Can't see paying that much.

Posted by: Jodi

I like strawberries or raspberries with the Choc but not blueberries.

I really like the PB with my choc but my favorite is to add a tsp. of Instant Decaf and heavy cream, throw some ice in there and its like drinking a mocha frappe!

Posted by: DaMayor

Oh snap! Java! That sounds like a winner!

Posted by: Stacey

I buy the strawberry Opti. whey and add frozen strawberries and Heavy cream to it.. taste wonderful!

Posted by: Karlito

I'm using Optimum Chocolate at the moment, as it's cheaper, but I have to say I really prefer the taste of the Prolabs Whey protein....Optimum has a very slight weird funk to it that you only notice after getting used to another brand.....

Posted by: P-funk

Optimum is my favorite tasting but I have never had Prolab. I use their creatine I think they are a good supp. company.

How many grams of carbs/sugar is in one serving of their protein?

Posted by: Karlito

Whey Isolate:

Total Calories 100
Calories From Fat 5
Total Fat 0.5 g 1%
Saturated Fat <0.5 g 1%
Cholesterol 10 mg 3%
Sodium 80 mg 3%
Total Carbohydrates 1 g <1%
Dietary Fiber <0.5 g 2%
Sugars <0.5 g
Protein 23 g 48%

What they call "Whey Advance":

Total Fat 2g 3%
Saturated Fat 1g 6%
Cholesterol 45mg 15%
Sodium 60mg 2%
Total Carbohydrates 3g 1%
Dietary Fiber 0g 0%
Sugars 3g **
Protein 24g 48%
Vitamin A <2%
Vitamin C <2%
Calcium 18%
Iron 2%

Problem is the first is $29 and the latter is $23, when I can get a five pound jug of Optimum for $25.....

thats my recipe!

i <3 strawberry.

Posted by: Jodi

I prefer the Optimium Vanilla over the Strawberry and then add my fruit in. That way I can use diferrent kinds of berries as well.

Besides every try the Opti Strawberry plain -

i think i know what you mean, im still used to the nitro-tech taste(better than optimum, delicious). optimum leaves this weird "after taste" type thing. its hard to describe.

Optimum has a higher percentage of protein and less expensive. It is one of the most reputable companies.

Posted by: Prince

I always viewed Optimum as a cheap version of Twin Lab, meaning they make every product on the market, but they do not innovate, they are copycats of every supplement, and whatever seems to be the current market hype.

I think you may be wrong on this. Optimum is a very large company with lots of money. They don't do the advertising bit like most do. And their quality is top notch. Better than most. I believe GP would tell you the same thing.

Higher percentage of protein?Like more grams per serving?I just think protein is protein(assuming your comparing the same type of protein) regardless of who's selling it.I guess some are more fortified with vitamins and aminos but I've gone expensive and cheap and could never tell the difference. So if optimum whey is cheap go for it

how do you know that?

Good question maybe that's what their ads say

Posted by: Prince

what brand of supplements do you use MeanCuts?

Posted by: MeanCuts

Protein(iron-tek),creatine(max muscle),ephedrine(vaso pro),Vitamins&glucosamine(varies).I buy retail though

For optimum whey their seving size is 28.4g. The # of grams of protein is 22. This is 77% protein.
Nitro tech serving size is 29g @ 20g protein=69%protein and you compare the cost!
1fast has also conducted test on optimum.

I think those sties are a little biased but I'm with you when comparing optimum to nitro-tek

What make them biased? 1Fast400 sells them all and Optimum is one of the cheapest?

Posted by: MeanCuts

Exactly 1Fast400 sells optimum and I bet it sells really well so they wouldn't be a very good buosness if they said one of their best selling products was a fraud.I don't actually have to say why optimumnutrition.com is biased do I?From what I read whey protein is cheap to make so there's no reason for whey products to be anything other than what they say they are.

Posted by: Prince

I just question the quality of any supplement, protein or otherwise, that is as cheap as Optimum.

I guess I have always believed in the saying "you get what you pay for".

Have any studies been done showing one whey to be superior to another? Or is this just your "gut feeling"?

I had been buying Optimum just because it's so cheap for the 10lb bags... but if there's a noticable difference in quality between the Optimum and another brand, i'd switch.

To me whey is whey(because it's cheap to make) and all you pay for is the brand name.Like buying medicine you can pay more for the brand name but why not get generic and save money?

If you read his website, you will find he does sell some things that have not had favorable test results.........like HDT protein(MD labs). That created quite a stir. If it was representable of that product or not we do not know? That batch though did not test good. And just a side note, Mike pays for this out of his own pocket and it is very expensive to run these test. I think this shows Mikes commitment to show things how they are no matter who it is!

I've had optimums tested. It was one of the first things I had tested. I can't remember if it is on labelclaimstesting.com

Well i don't know Mike but if you say he's cool I believe you.AS far the protein tests it's hard to believe anyone would put bad whey protein on the market since it's so cheap. Why did HDT have a bad test?

Yeah my bad..................it was their 1-ad. I have used their protein and love it. But it makes you wonder if their label claims are up to par? Here is the results...........http://www.1fast400.com/store/article.php?articleID=4

Something funny:

But I just bought my second jug of Optimum Whey.....and this batch not only tastes a little different, it's a little granier? Maybe just older/newer than the last batch?

Posted by: dg806

Every batch is going to be different probably.
