Yup, the Rangers/Islanders game was on last night. I didn't watch. Too much news going on to be able to concentrate on a hockey game.

I see Tony Amonte scored another goal. Man, he's on fire.

After the president spoke, I turned on the Playstation and played SOCOM for a while...............Tried to get my mind off the world events. I got killed within 10min.'s and turned the news back on. I found it hard to concentrate on anything last night.

Capitals figure it's time to head to Canada

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Washington Capitals have been run out of the country by Michelle Kwan and Sarah Hughes.

Figure skaters are replacing hockey skaters at the MCI Center for the next week or so. The World Figure Skating Championships are forcing the Capitals to take a unique road trip -- all six Canadian NHL teams in 10 days -- right in the homestretch of their playoff run.

"Being Canadian, I'm looking forward to it," coach Bruce Cassidy said. "There'll be a lot of hockey talk in the papers. It'll be a little too long, but it's fun."

Cassidy is planning to take the team curling while in his native Ottawa, although a group skate on the city's famous Rideau Canal might have to be put off by a spring thaw. Such bonding exercises are the norm for some coaches on long trips, especially when the coach is a young rookie who has spent the season learning how to deal with NHL players.

"This is a chance to solidify our group," Cassidy said, "a chance to be together and get to know each other again."

The Capitals departed Tuesday for a Thursday game in Calgary. Their Canadian odyssey continues with visits to Edmonton, Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto.

Four of those teams most likely will make the playoffs, and the Capitals until recently have struggled against teams with better records. They need a good trip because last week they lost their Southeast Division lead to the Tampa Bay Lightning, who are up by two points with nine games remaining.

"Everything rests in Tampa's hands," goaltender Olaf Kolzig said.

The playoff seeding could be cemented by the time the Capitals return home April 1 for three home games to complete the regular season. Only a collapse would eliminate them from the playoffs entirely, but a seventh or eighth seed would present a difficult first-round matchup against New Jersey, Ottawa or Philadelphia.

But if they can pass Tampa Bay, the Capitals would get the No. 3 seed and home-ice advantage for the first round. They got a psychological boost for the trip by beating Colorado 2-1 at home on Sunday without Jaromir Jagr.

Jagr has missed three games with a broken bone in his wrist. Cassidy hopes his leading goal-scorer will return against the Flames, and the Caps are also day to day with two other key injuries: Kip Miller (hand) and Brendan Witt (chest).

"I would expect after the way we've played against New Jersey, Philly and Colorado, some of the elite teams in the league, we have proven to ourselves that we can compete with them," Cassidy said. "It's just a mind-set that we have to bring every night and bring it on the road trip."

I'd sure as hell rather take on the Caps in the first round than Toronto.
