I always like the water weight I gain from creatine since I only see and feel it in my muscles.Atkins is a cool diet i've tried it and had good results.I think the protein will help you spare some muscle and maybe if your lucky you'll gain some
One question though why not lose the weight first then start your cycle?

and if you can lose weight and gain muscle then more power to you
