my brother in law was to go on a diet, to look good, 7 % fat. he doesnt train, nor he has time with his 2 jobs. he weighs 235 lbs and 22% fat. fat % may be more, in my opinion. he eats whatever he wants ,never counted calories, sometimes eats once a day. whats the best diet for him to do? a cutting diet? how many cals to start of the diet ,since he never counted cals?

Well getting him to count calories isn't the place to start. I would suggest increasing meal frequency to begin w/...then slowly clean up the diet...stop eating whatever he wants, and eliminate all processed foods, eat more fruits and veggies, slow burning carbs, lean protein, healthy fats, less sugar...that will be enough (and very tough) to start w/.

that sounds good, and eat 6 times a day. how many cals will he need? does he need to eat like 50% protein, 25% carbs, 25% fat?

I think the cals and ratios are irrelevant at this point, he just needs to eat cleaner and more frequently. He needs to get into healthy habits and break the old ones. If you can get him to start eating properly it may be easier for you to talk him into a little bit of exercise also, even if that means just taking a walk around the block after work. Something is better than nothing, every need to start somewhere.
