i keep hearing people say that they're "natural" bodybuilders. but what does this mean exactly? does it justmean that oyu dont take anabolic steroids? or does it mean you dont take prohormones or creatine or glutamine etc. either? can someone please clarify?

I believe natural would mean no pro-hormones or steroids. Amino Acids do not fit into that catigory because they are basicly a food broken down. Anything that can be found in a healthy diet would be natural.

The extreme will say that unless your a homeless bum or living the wandering mans life your not natural.

I believe that PH is not natural because it directly affects your hormone levels, food does also because if your starving to death your body has to stay alive, not make mad amounts of test. So I apperantly sit somewhere in the middle, I look at hormone levels and direct stimulation as natural or not, I dont look at food.

My main question is... why does anyone care?

Do we all need to make ourselves feel better by lumping others that are bigger into groups? Sounds like an attempt to find an excuse for not being big to me

I think there are substances besides steroids and PH which certainly dont fit in the natural category. As with Mudge I agree that Amino Acids dont fit into that category... or basic foods. Flax seed oil, etc certainly doesnt make one un-natural. Basically a man made substance that is engineered in a labratory and manipulates hormones in a positive or negative fashion... or does so to other chemicals in the body which will result in a physical gain. Protein doesnt really count either IMO.

I dont know, I think we put too much stress into being natural or un-natural.

Why does anyone care? I can't really say, but tell someone on the street your a steroid freak and they will definitely think something of you, probably none of it good.

There is definately too much stress on if someone is natural or not, and it is usually from the natural guys. They like to judge and discredit others accomplishments b/c they are on this and that.

hey im not against AS nor do i take them. i take creatine and protein so i guess im in the middle. i'm not judging you guys that roid, you work your asses off with or without AS. in fact, im not against taking them unless your in a competition where they're banned, and i definetly dont think they should be illegal. same for prohormones. i dont care either way i just wanted to know what it meant

I wasn't hinting at you dogg, I was just speaking in a broader sense. Its all good

Since its a felonious activity, they are all banned the funny thing is most organizations take urine samples and dont do anything with them, quite mysterious isn't it

I dont use roids either way... but the issue wasnt really what we thought about roids, but where we draw the line when it comes to natural and un-natural. I dont look at roiders and think they're freaks, I just think they're willing to take a step that others arent willing to. I think I can achieve my goals through hard work, diet and decent supplementation... I dont think I need roids to do so. So I dont use them. That doesnt make me any better than anyone else, or any worse.

I agree though, if someone does use roids they shouldnt hang a sign on their front door

Its really an opinion, I dont see how in today age we could state something as fact based on whats natural - because fact would also be opinion However, nature is also your surroundings and differs from century to century, so I could also argue that someone who eats McDonalds is natural in todays world, despite all the hormones and such that animals are fed.

IMO direct stimulation of hormonal levels is what makes someone natural or not, which to me means PH and/or steroid use.
