Please answer if you have low bodyfat---->

Posted by: BigRedCat

I forgot to add:
3-4 days a week: mix of HITT and slow cardio sessions.

Posted by: ponyboy

I think this is totally dependent on your goals and how much lean mass you want to maintain. The lowest BF will be done through strict diet (mostly) and some cardio. However, some will advocate HIIT where some will advocate long slow cardio twice a day when cutting for competition.

My lowest BF was about 7-8% done through long slow cardio and dieting. However, I tried HIIT as well and it did pretty much the same thing is a shorter period of time per week.

Posted by: Skib

i used to do 20 minutes after each weight training session but for the past couple weeks i've just been biking to and from work everyday (about 20-25 min) it's good exercise because there's about 3 big hills that i have to go up and down on both ways there and back... really gets the legs burning!

i try to do cardio but my legs are just too sore! i think that's a good thing though...

Posted by: Freeman

I don't do cardio much anymore. An occaisional jog around the block when I first wake up to get the blood and juices flowin' is about all I do now. I might play flag-football this fall though. That would be some good cardio a few times a week.

Posted by: bludevil

I'm at 8.5% bodyfat with no cardio.

Posted by: naturalguy

When I am preparing for a contest:

3 days per week of MaxOT cardio (16 min. high intensity)

2 days per week of traditional cardio (longer duration, mod. intensity)

and I adjust it as I go along.

Posted by: rburton

I am able to reduce BF% to < 10% w/o cardio. I gradually reduce calories over a period of 8-12 weeks. The rest of the year I stay around 12%-14% BF%. I am able to do this at 41 yr of age, too.

Posted by: delores

20 mins every day

Posted by: oaktownboy

Well, if you are like me and are bulking like hell, you do absolutely NO cardio whatsoever.

Posted by: I Are Baboon

I vote "2-3 days a week, 60-180 minutes each time, combo of HIIT and slow cardio."

Posted by: papaoso2k1

180 min???

Posted by: Capt. Awesome

I'm trying to do sprints everyday now for about 20 minutes.
I sprint for 20 seconds, then walk for 30-40 seconds and repeat. I do this on a 1.5 mile course. Is this too much? I'm trying to stay super lean (like those sprinter guy looks)

Posted by: Fit Freak

I try to ALWAYS do some cardio...for the health benefits even if I'm doing a lean bulk.

It's summer now so I'm doing a bit more...probably 3-4 days per week for 30-40 minutes at moderate intensity. I never do "slow" cardio as you refer to...I just cannot get my heart rate up enough when I do that. I'm 26 year old so whenever I do cardio I like to train at about 145-160 bpm. As I said I treat cardio as a way to maintain a lower BF% as well as a way to be healthy and FIT....what the hell is the point of being a MEATHEAD that gets out of breath by walking up a few flights of steps??

When I train for a competition I usually work up to 5 sessions per week of 45 minutes of moderate intensity (150bpm) for my age. I will occasionally through in a little HIIT but not a lot.

I have a comp in 6.5 weeks and I havn't done any cardio

Cycling. Road rides take up to three hours, mountain bike rides are usually 60-90 minutes of pedaling time.

Posted by: Big Smoothy

HIIT once per week, 20 minutes.

Posted by: Flex

10min on the bike after leg day (therefore once/week) is all i can stand, and i can't stand no more.

I hate it. I moved to Denver from Florida. The air is so damn thin and dry that I can't walk from my car to the gym door without breathing hard. Competing is going to be a challenge! How the hell do people breath up here!

Posted by: PreMier

Wait till you go back to a lower elevation... You will feel like a GOD.

Posted by: BabyArnold

I hope so! I'm moving back to Tampa in August.

Posted by: PreMier

Why? Why did you move to Denver then?

Posted by: HoldDaMayo

2 3 hour sessions of tennis a week combined with 1 day of 30 minute low intensity cardio workout... and I'm still fat... FU#$ my golly gosh darn dieting choices

Posted by: PreMier

BTW, I dont do cardio. Not yet anyways...

Posted by: aztecwolf

i probably do about 2-4 hiit type cardio per week and some form of slow cardio a week

Posted by: aztecwolf

i have low bodyfat too

Dude, I hate Denver. It is a freakin Polar Desert up here. Nothing but rocks, mountains, and snow. I miss the beach Bunnies, sand and surf Bro. And the seafood is calling my name! I am an Inspector on the T-Rex project here in Denver, my job moved me here against my will. But my company just started a project in Tampa and I am heading back home! I can't wait!

Posted by: JerseyDevil

I think the best way to lean out is thru diet, but I do like 3 mile 'powerwalks', three times a week.

Never been to Denver BabyArnold, but my folks live in Bradenton/Sarasota. I love it down there. ANYWHERE seems nice compared to Jersey ....

Don't be dissin NJ now. I grew up on an island in NJ, and live 5 mins from there now. In the summer, I'm either on the beach or on my waverunner.

Posted by: JerseyDevil

I was just poking fun Paynne. I have lived several places in my life, and although southern NJ wouldn't be my first choice, there are many things I like about living here. Summers at the shore are one of them.

I'm just outside of Philly, close to the AC Expressway. Where are you at?

Posted by: CowPimp

I jog for 10-15 minutes before every lifting session (4 times per week). I do this as a warmup, but I extended the session to 10-15 minutes to give my heart a little extra work. As well, I do HIIT cardio 2 times per week for about 20 minutes on the days that I don't lift.

Posted by: atherjen

I dont do cardio! once in a blue moon. when I was preparing for comp I was only doing it 1-2x week.

...but I walk EVERYWHERES! at least an hour each day

Posted by: DFINEST

I conduct cardio 3-4 times per week
running 3 - 5 miles at a time.

Posted by: Darkkmind

I don't do cardio. It's hard enough for me to keep the weight on. My BF is 7%.

Posted by: scottrtrout

What ever you decide to do just make sure you gradually add cardio week by week. Either inc time or # of days but not both in the same week.
But different types for different people. Try them all.

Posted by: Vieope

I hate cardio but I love the serotonin spike after it.

Posted by: MarcusMaximus

no cardio.. so i chose that option.
b/f ( bodyfat, not boyfriend ) at this point ~ 12- 15%

Posted by: madden player

I voted for the no cardio, I try and stay lean with my diet. If I notice myself getting a little soft I will cut calories. I do own three dogs and they also help with the cardio but unless you got alot of fat to lose I would avoid cardio.

I am impressed, and interested since I'm 43. Question for you and others who have low BF with no cardio. Is this realistic for the natural athlete?

I do about 3 HIITs or 20 minute mod to high sessions per week on non-lifting days.

Posted by: sabre81

i dont do carido in the gym or have a schedule. The only 'caridio' i get is a day when me and a few buddies play some football or basketball.

Posted by: solid10

New Jersey..

Posted by: M.J.H.

I hate cardio.

No cardio for me.

Posted by: ladybuilder

I teach 2 Hiit 30-45min classes a week, been cutting them down to 30-45 min of mid tempo slow burn followed by some circuit, aero ball, floor work, pilates or whatever I feel like that day. Keeps the participants interested and me happy.

Tring to lose 10% BF in 4 months so I am doing 5-6 days of it a week.

Posted by: angelpaws

I use treadmill or elliptical about 4 times a week 25-30 minutes each time. Dont know bodyfat.

Posted by: BerryBlis

Hey,

I'm at about 7% (i'm a female) and I usually do 45 minutes 7 days a week, some days I do sprints and some days I just do moderate intensity (running or uphill walking). I eat a lot though to make up for it. (I'm one of those strange ones that loves cardio though....). I have to warn you though, it's really hard to put on muscle with that much cardio (I'm trying without a whole lot of luck...., but i'm stuborn and need my morning run...)

Posted by: P-funk

I used to do some cardio (usually HITT). Now I don't do any. Instead I am really seious about my rest intervals and when I want to work on my endurance or cardiovascular conditioning I just shorted them.

Posted by: Missfit4all

I was (and still am) in serious need of BF loss. 10 pounds. I was doing 1 hour a day 7 days a week and was losing BF of 1lb per week.... as o matter o fact... right on schedule! then i started listening to some Big talkers say "That's too much" "You'll burn out" "You're Metabolism will b in overdrive" So....................i backed off and tried like they recommended... "every other day-- 20 minutes a day." (short and sweet) Well guess what i found? It was only enough to Maintain!! No more loss of BF No more losing A single pound? As a matter o fact. i gained 1 pound back? I'm going back to what i know works, for me, for BF loss. Cardio -- 7 days a week -- 1 hour a day ---lose 1 pound per week! (10 more to go!!!) This works for me, anyway?
