what is the ideal ratio for protein and carbs post w/o?

right now im doing 50g whey 50g dextrose 50g maltodextrin

is 2:1 overkill on carbs? ive heard this often works well...

also, will i get an insulin spike equally as large with 50g dex 50g of maltodextrin as i would with 100g grams of dextrose? (which would most definitly be overkill)

2:1 ratio is not overkill, it also depends on the workout, when I train legs I need more carbs afterwards than when I train arms.

The 50/50 protein mix will give you the same insulin spike as 100grms of dextrose and it is a better mix as you get protein in there as well.

Alot also depends on your goals and your overall calorie intake for the day.

I believe 2:1 is right on the money, I would tend to believe that 50g of whey will overwhelm your system and get converted to glucose, however. Assuming you are 200 lbs or lower, I would shoot for 30g pro/60g carb immediately after, then a regular meal within 60-90 minutes.

get converted to glucose? it is glucose.

btw

what about for those of us who are cutting?

what would the right ammount of carbs be? (dex/malto)

Posted by: donescobar2000

i would do 10 of each just keep carbs low.

Even when you are cutting you need carbs at this time, if you want to cut out carbs at another time of the day that is fine but you need them after you train. Studies (and thousands of bodybuilders) show that after training carbs, even simple high glycemic, go to repleneshing glycogen they DO NOT get stored as fat and they DO NOT stop lypolysis.

Unless you spill over and spilling on High GI carbs is not a good thing. Each of our bodies are different so one ratio won't work for another. It depends on your metabolism and if your cutting and you are still learning about your body and what it can handle I still suggest Oats and Whey PWO!

You only "spill over" if you take in too many carbs.

If the amounts were equal, for post workout oats are not a good choice as they take too long to break down, at any other time of the day they are a great choice.

I agree. 20 grams of simple carbs is very unlikely to turn to fat
