Hello everyone,I'm just wondering where I can find a GI List for various carbs.
It gets a bit confusing when it comes to fruits.I'm trying Twin Peaks carb cycling and need better seperation of the good from the bad. Thanks

In the new sticky titled Guide to Dieting & getting cut there is a link for the glycemic index.

Posted by: kdwa1

Thanks Jodi, got it.I'm mostly trying to decide which friuts to eat on the cycling diet before carbs.Ivé been eating apple mostly.Any more?
Also wondering if you eat fruit on the no carb day.Tks

Posted by: Jodi

I eat any small fruit. Peaches, berries, apples, plums, pears, clementines etc.

Posted by: Mudge

Green apples

Posted by: sara

just stay away from watermelons, cantaloupes and grapes!
I dunno if you allowed oranges

Posted by: Skib

i alternate between a peach and an apple on a daily basis... ocassionally i'll have some strawberries but they're kind of expensive here...

I think the consensus earlier was that organges and grapefruits were OK on a cut. I'll look for the thread.

Does anyone think about food comnination? Meaning that some friuts will easily digest with protein and carbs and others won't.
From my studies over the years Ivé found that fruits containing enzymes like papain(papaya) bromelin(pineapple) and also apple, tomato(which is a fruit) and avocado digest well with other foods. However the sweet juicy others usually don't.
I idea is that most fruit digests faster than carbs or protein but if in the stomach at the same time the fruit will stay there for too long and give you indigestion and sick feeling because of the fermention process unless of course they have the enzymes or are compatible with other foods.
Many natural foods stores sell food combining charts that are an interesting read.
I think Twin Peak says that we need a fairly sweet fruit so I suppose a tomato wouldn't do on his suggested diet of carb cycling and the Avocado would be too high in fat.Thoughts?Tks

TP says any small fruit will do.

Posted by: kdwa1

But still if people are having indigestion problems then food combining is something to look at,wouldn't you agree?
I don't think most people are going to eat strawberries with their steak & eggs even if TP says it's cool.Individual choice and bobies, right? Actually it doesn't sound too bad but it comes down to efficient digestion.LOL
Anyway some people can digest anything, even metal.

Posted by: sara

I'm craving for pears now
I'll go buy some tomorrow

Posted by: kdwa1

I'll take pears over metal anyday.Sounds good Sara.

Well of cousse I agree butl if you don't like strawberries and steak together or they cause indigestion together then don't eat that. I'm not sure I'm following your argument here.

If some fruits won't work for you then don't eat them. I haven't found a fruit yet that I have a problem digesting with other foods

Posted by: kdwa1

I'm not arguing, just making a point about food combinations and thinking that some fruits are better than others for being compatible with specific meals that won't hinder digestion process.Alot of people get heart burn from wrong combinations. There's always more to it I believe. So I'm looking for the best fruits with the carb cycle,That's all.LOL
If it doesn't bother you,go for it.

Posted by: kdwa1

I think drinking an ounce of juice will do the trick too.

Posted by: Jodi

Im not saying its an argument, I guess I meant I wasn't following your statement. I don't believe oj would be a good alternative though.

Posted by: kdwa1

No problem Jodi, understood.I agree OJ wouldn't do.It would have to be apple or pineapple. But the pine might have too much sugar.Only 1 ounce though.
All I know is it's really strange going on this diet after doing low carb for so long.I feel like I'm actually eating again but definitely watching the measurements etc.Kinda freaky on a high carb day, huh?
Hope it really works.Tks

Posted by: Jodi

I did low carb before this for a long time and I don't think I will ever do it again. Just don't count carbs on high carb day I know its hard to get use to it but listen to your body and you'll know when you've had enough

Posted by: kdwa1

Thanks Jodi,Just gotta be real strict on the NO carb days and careful on the low.On a high carb day I'm doing 1/2 cups per meal.May up it later once I get used to the fullness again.

Posted by: Jodi

1/2 C. Shit I eat that on low carb days.

Posted by: kdwa1

I know your probably doing 1-2 cups every meal ,right?
After all the low carb dieting I feel like a cow eating so much.
Do you do it with all your carbs Jodi? I think 1 cup would be my max after the veggies and proteins. And yes I have been counting the carbs especially rice.Tks.

Posted by: kdwa1

One thing I didn't mention is age.I think we respond differently at various ages.I'm 49 so my body really wants to put the fat on.If I had had this diet at 28,no problem I'd burn it off with the higher metabolism.

Posted by: Jodi

There is no max. Eat til your satisfied. First eat your protein, veggies & fruit then eat your carbs til your satisfied. I would range 1-2 approx. I don't know the only thing I ever measure was oats because you have to and oats I would eat minimum 1 C. measured dry. Don't count your carbs. Yes you will be a bit bloated and yes the scale with move but you shouldn't worry about it. Trust me, if I can do this diet to and be ready for a competition in 9 weeks and not count my carbs then so can you. Do you understand the reasoning behind the high carb days.

Posted by: Jodi

Don't worry about your age. Doesn't matter what our age is, if we don't eat enough we won't drop bodyfat. Simply said.

Posted by: kdwa1

Yea The high carb days are to load Glycogen stores and to keep the body feed so it doesn't promote fat gain when it goes into the no carb zone and to control the insulin level basically. But I'm sure there's,just takes time to sink in.Thanks, appreciate the example and support.Cool stuff.
Oh and eight more days! I wish you the best.Rock n Roll

You know,it's the weirdest thing when someone says,Don't count carbs.Seems that all we ever hear in dieting is count em. What a concept.I should of thought of it.

Posted by: Jodi

Also, it raises leptin too keep your body from thinking its dieting and to keep your body out of starvation mode. Yeah I know its hard to get use to. Thanks I'm hoping I at least won't get last place.

Posted by: kdwa1

I remember when I was doing 30 g's of carb dieting.I was HUNGRY and felt empty alot, everytime I did eat more my body would save the fat. Then the next day even lower carb,it's a vicious cycle. If it hadn't been for the proteins I would have starved.
Anyway I tried alot of diets over the years.Vegetarian 6 years and lost tons of weight 205 in H.S. then down to 160 at 6'3".Fruitarian 8 months even lower. Then the 70-80 percent carbs daily, got fatter. So it's interesting to find new ideas and try em out.
Most of the time on diets it's either feast or famine.Tks
It's a big job trying to creat the perfect body but hey someones got to do it,right?Stay pumped girl.

Posted by: kdwa1

Jodi,I forgot to ask,Do you prefer to do the high carb days on training days or does it matter?
And do u always cycle every three days or take extra no carb days?Tks

Posted by: Jodi

3 day cycle

I always make sure I train on high and low carb days.

Posted by: kdwa1

What do you do on weekends?
And do you do high carb protein powders on high carb days?Check Leslie's thread.Tks

Posted by: Jodi

I never use high carb powders. Only whey for me. What do you mean what do I do on the weekends

Posted by: kdwa1

Sorry I meant ,do you train on weekends?Because if you don't eat high carbs on non training days and cycle every three that means you must be at low or no carbs on S-S if you train all week.
Also I meant high carb Whey powders but not the super heavy gainers.I should have been more specific.LOL

Posted by: Jodi

I don't take weekends off. I schedule my workouts to follow my high and low carb days. Stay away from the high carb protein drinks. Stick with the approved carb list that TP has in his article

Posted by: kdwa1

Carbs are Carbs ,right?Of course the good ones. So I would think that if you didn't want to eat them you can drink them, just a thought.Kinda like the fruit juice idea.
My idea was based on my schedule I guess.Training M-T ,Wed off, Th-Fri training routine.
So:
Sunday-no carb
Mon-low carb
Tues-high
Wed-No
Thurs-low
Fri-high
And probably Sat very low
Again Sun-No low

Whadayathink? Tks

Not all carbs are created equal

If thats how you have to do it. I won't 2 days off from the gym in a row but thats just me.

Posted by: kdwa1

Hmmm Huh,I did say good carbs,And I do agree not all carbs are created equal.
Anyway I gotta work all day Sat. and Sun the gym is too crowded and need time with my little boy.
But do you think throwing in an extra low carb day will hurt or should I do an extra no carber?
Sorry to bug you so much.Appreciate your insight.

Posted by: Jodi

I think the extra low is fine. If you need a tweak you know where to begin

Posted by: kdwa1

Thanks Jodi youvé helped alot. It's great to have a hard core training babe on these forums.I worship the ground you stand on.

Posted by: Jodi

No problem.
