What is the best thing to eat before going to sleep? If I understand correctly, protien shakes digest too quick and I need something that digests slow.

Cottage cheese, eggs

ive been looking for an alternative to these as the final meal..as im getting tired of the monotony. any ideas?

List what you would like to have?

Posted by: Jodi

Protein is fine if you add a fat source like natural PB or flax or somesort of EFA.

Or try cottage cheese, great source of casien and add a Tbs. of PB with it.

I take in less than 30 grams of fat through out the whole day!

Posted by: sentricyphen

well how many calories are you eating? and how much do you weigh? you must be cutting. --see im in the last week of my bulk cycle.

Posted by: sara

I'm not counting calories anymore... I used to take in about 60 grams of fat a day, and less than 70 grms of carbs.(I lost lots of weight with that)..
now I only count my protein intake and have little of fat in each meal... 5-8 grams of fat per meal. and I don't count my carbs intake either
I weight 105 lbs

check my journal... I just started posting my meals again

One personal trainer/strength and conditioning specialist at my work, who has a phd in biology, swears by shredded wheat mixed with applesauce before bed. He says that it provides you with a kind of slow, control released insulin response through out the night wich will keep you from waking up hungry. i asked him about the risk of supressing growth hormone during sleeping because of the insulin in the blood. he told me that there are so many different chemical reactions going on while you sleep and so many different things to look at that it is really hard to tell what is going on at any given time. I believe him because he knows his stuff but I am still not goint to try that, I'll stick with my cottage cheese.

1/2 cup oatmeal w/tbsp. of flax and either cottage cheese or a blended protein powder is perfect.

HOWEVER this all depends on what you eat for the day and what time you workout, if you workout at night you would need more carbs than this.

is a bowl of ceral and a protien shake okay?

is cottage cheese for both bulking and cutting?

Posted by: naturalguy

It all depends if it fits in your daily caloric intake. It also makes a difference what type of cereal.

Posted by: Tha Don

lol i knew you'd say something complex like that

but if my caloric intake was good and i just needed something to stop me getting hungry in the night, what would be best...

bowl of weetabix
bowl of bran flakes
salad
cottage cheese
protien shake
snack'a'jacks
digestive biscuits

i dunno which of them i am allowed to snack on when i'm cutting and which are not such a good idea (obviously when i'm bulking i'll munch on all of them )

Posted by: Tha Don

^^^^ somebody give me an opinion!

Posted by: naturalguy

out of those choices, either a protein shake or cottage cheese, both are great choices.

Posted by: Tha Don

thanks man

just to clear it up for me.... what is wrong with cereal? (maybe these cereals are not sold in the US, basically bran flakes is brown flakes full of fibre, its had a string of health commercials on it, and weetabix is just like shredded wheat i think). I always though a bowl of cereal was the best thing b4 bed

Posted by: naturalguy

Most cereals are processed and high glycemic, however if it is a whole grain, low glycemic cereal in a small amount (no more than 25g) and I would have it with protein and healthy fat, not by itself.

cottage cheese with pb is the absolute end all be all.
