Grunting while lifting

This guy at the gym grunts real fuqing loud at the gym. And it doesn't matter what he's doing; leg lifts, bench, abs. I want to choke the fuck head and tell him that grunting won't make it easier!!!

Worst thing is, he was benching only 185lbs!!

i hate people who do that. I let out a little grunt at the end of a heavy set every now and then, but that's it. At my old gym there was a guy who would almost scream on every rep he did, it didn't matter if it was a warm up set or a new max attempt. I never said anything though, he benched well into the 400's, and he probably would have destroyed me.

heh heh..that one ALWAYS makes the top ten most annoying things people do in the gym!
I can understand a little grunt, not to be heard much more than within a couple feet of you..but if the grunting is intrusive to your workout..that is annoying..

i grunt on some of my exercises when i'm tryin to get the last few reps up.. not an actual grunt but that struggling noise and it's not loud.. i don't think anythings wrong with it.. it does help me to get the weight up, or so my mind tells me

A little grunting like you mentioned is ok..its the annoying 'top of the lungs' yelling through each and every friggin rep..that is annoying.

Posted by: BabsieGirl

the only guys I know that grunt REALLY loud are the power lifters at my gym.

Posted by: Burner02

it goes from annoying to distracting to pathetic....

if you want 'attention'..go lift an impressive amount of weight...
yelling makes you look like an ass..

Dont really have a problem with it at my gym... in fact, one of the trainers there told me that the only time anyone has an excuse to grunt or yell is when theyre doing deadlifts.

LOL

take pics?

I grunt sometimes when I lift, but I lift at home so no one cares. That's on those last few reps when you need that little push. That guy who grunts on every rep has watched too many BB videos where they grunt and yell for entertainment value.

of a guy? nah.that would put me in 'someone kick my ass, 'cuse I am gay' catagory...

now..some of the women in my gym are photo worthy..funny..I bet they wouldn't be too wild about me clicking away at them...

Posted by: maniclion

A guy who presses 30# DB's could kick your ass?

I hate when people associate heavy lifters with being really tough and good fighters and not so strong guys with being panzy's and weak fighters.

Think that's bad, at my old gym we had a chiropractor who used to scream and holler BEFORE doing a set to get psyched! Then he would grunt and moan while doing his reps. What an asshole! At times it was sort of comical.

... it sounded like he was having sex with himself

I don't think I grunt much. To tell the truth. Who knows. I am too busy kicking my own ass to pay any attention to those around me, or wether or not I am making any noise. If I do, it is not loud. If it bothers someone, well put up, or go train at Bally's.

Come to think of it, I take it back... I do grunt loud as hell!!! But only on the Crapper.

I save my grunting for sex.

who'd you rather have back you up in a fight, the big STRONG guy or the smaller WEAKER guy? which would you rather fight

There's this little asian Bruce-Lee kind of guy who lets out a natsy, kung-fu "yahhh!" after almost every rep. Some poor dude started laughing, and nearly dropped a 40 pound barbell on his foot the first time he heard it. The rest of us have become immune.

i guess a grunt is better than a big loud disturbing fart.

did you ever notice farts smell their worst in the gym? well, usually the shower is the worst, but the gym is the second worst.

Lol

Soz was going to say lol, When I used to train at a proper gym ( with barbells), I used to do 21's and on the final set ( of four), during the last three reps ( whole curls), I'd lock my jaw and exhale hard as the burn got too much. But I'd never grunt, a guy I know who trains there, used to go from the top to the bottom of the barbell stack and only on the end of the last set with a massive barbell did he grunt as the burn got too much.

I rarely let out a grunt just at the end of a set. But this one guy thats goes to my gym is soooo outa shape and comes in does 25 minutes of random lifting at insane weight and only does like 3 reps. I hate when he goes because it pisses me off how people could be so ignorant. He goes and only does machines, grunts louder than sin after every rep, and after his 3-4 reps SLAMS the weights, then gets up and starts flexing and waving his arms like hes hot shit. If only he wasn't so damn fat and ignorantm, god it kills me. Two weeks ago I couldn't take it anymore because he ruins my whole day I walked up to him as we was doing his 3 reps of machine bench and said "if you can't pump out at least 8 reps you better leave or drop the weight pal" He left. Heres another example while I was doing seated rows he came up to the universal machine thing and grabed a bar for front push downs and just starting swinging it up and down for no damn reason. He was shaking the whole machine so much my weights were getting stuck on the bars, I mean c'mon wouldn't it piss you off some to?

That's because they are protein farts. They are right up there with beer farts

We call them "drama lifters"...every movement, every rep, every breath, is like some calling of the wild for them - the cameras are rolling in their minds - the testosterone flowing - and they turn into the Incredible Hulk after the first two reps.
