Sorry to hear that man, that is exactly why I think football is stupid. On average, about a dozen high school kids die each year from head and neck injuries.
Get as big as you can, and run into each other, head first.
I hope you heal well, shoulder injuries suck, as do back.

That's too bad. I used to play runningback in football and forward in hockey and quit because I got fed up with the injuries.
The thing I like about weights is that you have control over what's going on. In competitive sports you don't have that control. It's basically a kind of Russian Roulette and you are constantly nursing some type of injury.
I've had far fewer injuries in the gym than I had playing competitive sports. Now I only play sports for fun and it's alot more enjoyable.
I think the only person who can answer your questions is a doctor who knows exactly the nature of your injury. I'd see a neuromuscular specialist.
I can tell you one thing though -
don't count on doing too much lifting for the next 4-6 months. I don't know if you dislocated your shoulder or if you will need surgery but usually after a serious shoulder injury you have a period of immobilization and healing (lasting several weeks) , followed by a few more months of very gradual rehabbing with physiotherapy and such before you can resume more strenuous activities.
These are just general estimates. I don't know your specific situation but it should give you an idea.
Good Luck.

LAM (who doesn't visit much lately) said that his father played football, and can hardly play golf now because he is so screwed up.

football is brutal but I actually found hockey even worse coz it's so godamn fast. Crushing someone against the boards is a great feeling but when you're on the receiving end it's another story.
