I read that we should be getting 2g Protein for every pound of bodyweight... I read somewhere else that it's a different amount, again somewhere else something else. Can someone PLEASE clear this up, surely there must be a target amount of protein that should be consumed per bodyweight constantly throughout the day (also that no more than 30-40g in one sitting ?) based upon a routine and calorie intake that's aimed at 1-2llb weight loss/ week. What are the arguments for greater/ less protein consumption and what are the effects of excess / reduced intake ?

Many thanks in advance.

1-1.5 G X BW is all you need spread out through 5-6 meals a day.

2g is definitely on the high side...

It depends on many factors. For those on these no carb diets and days, they need more protein because their body needs to convert the protein to glucose (not very effecient at all) so they do need to be close to 2 grms.

Carbs are protein sparing so that is going to be a huge factor.

Also someones amount of muscle is going to be a factor. A bigger person needs more protein.

There really is no limit to how much protein you can take in one meal. 30-40 grms. was once thought to be the max however that is just a myth. I take in between 50-60 grms. per meal.
