I like to drink crystal light and diet iced tea (i know the caffeine is bad). I know the side effects of the sweetners, but besides that, can diet drinks really make someone GAIN weight??? If so, does anyone know why?

In my opinion no, unless you are thinking that the sweetness of them will lead to cravings that make you eat junk. But they don't have any calories in them (crystal light has maybe 10cals). I don;t feel they are that bad.

No they are fine. Just make sure your drinking 5-6L of water a day and don't rely on the soda and coffee. I like to have coffee a few times a day and a 20oz. bottle of Diet Vanilla coke once a day so I have this stupid system I do, its silly but its sort of a game and I use the coffee and soda as a treat for getting all my water in.
1. Coffee first thing in the morning (can't survive)
2. Chug 1 L of water after my coffee
3. Sip on 2 L of water in the morning.
4. Have coffee after lunchtime
5. Sip on 1-2L of water rest of the afternoon
6. Have my soda
7. Drink 1-2L during my workout
8. Have decaf tea in the evening
I know its silly but it works for me and this way I know I get 6L of water in a day

dont mix the crystal lite and diet tea with the suggested amount of water, use more. i use a gallon jug for my crystal lite, the flavor is to strong if i use 2 quarts of water.
