CBS: Four Raiders Test Positive for THG
Sun Nov 16, 8:28 PM ET

By JANIE McCAULEY, AP Sports Writer

Four Oakland Raiders (news) have tested positive for the newly discovered steroid THG and face four-game suspensions, CBS reported Sunday.

Oakland senior assistant Bruce Allen said he knew of no suspensions. He criticized the report but wouldn't confirm or deny the reports of the positive tests.

"The league's program on testing and information on testing are extremely confidential," Allen said Sunday before the Raiders' game against the Minnesota Vikings (news). "So any reports out of that, someone's either violating the law or making them up. I hope they're able to find the people who spread false rumors."

CBS' "The NFL Today" and SportsLine.com reported that defensive tackle Dana Stubblefield, center Barret Robbins, linebacker Bill Romanowski and defensive tackle Chris Cooper were notified in letters from the NFL this past week that they tested positive for THG, or tetrahydrogestrinone. It wasn't clear when the tests were conducted or the urine samples were taken.

"That's a situation that's out there," Robbins said after the Raiders' 28-18 win over Minnesota. "I haven't been notified about it. I don't think it's right the way it's being handled. That's about all I've got to say about that."

Allen said he wouldn't know whether the players received such letters.

Agents for the players didn't immediately return calls from The Associated Press on Sunday. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello wouldn't comment.

"The process has been violated by the information coming out," said Raiders defensive end Trace Armstrong, the players' association president.

Stubblefield and Cooper, along with running back Tyrone Wheatley and fullback Chris Hetherington, appeared Thursday before a grand jury probing a nutritional supplements lab — the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative.

An attorney for BALCO founder Victor Conte has confirmed his client is the target of the grand jury probe. Conte has been accused by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency of supplying athletes with THG. He has denied the report.

Wow, was this stuff illegal when they took it? I'm sure it was against the NFL's rules, but how would it be illegal if other "new steroids" like 1-Test isn't?
Look at these guys, how can someone remain competitive without juicing? You'd be putting yourself at a disadvantage.
I remember when linebackers weighed 215, now QB's are considered small at 215.
Just some interesting points.

Well, we all knew they do, the intersting thing is that they had it beat with this previously undetectable THG. Apparantly they save the samples for a period of time, then retro tested the samples now that they can detect THG, which breaks down in conventional testing methods.
Of course the only way to remain competitive in the NFL is to have the same advantage the others have.

I know, I heard the report on the radio this morning, I was just being a smart ass cause I think it's rediculous.

If the American public likes to see NFL football played at it's current level of intensity, they should learn to accept that steroids are necessary.

I agree with you Prince. That said, these guys did break the rules, regardless of how we feel about steroids.

Personally, I really don't care who is taking steroids, no matter what sport we're talking about. The general public seems to think that steroids make players superhuman and improves every aspect of their game, what in fact a lot of professional sports require exceptional hand-eye coordination and mental toughness, something steroids really can't help improve on.

I can't believe it either. The next thing they'll probably be telling us is that baseball players are using steroids, too.

As the lustre of one sport after another is tarnished, it is comforting to know that at least Professional Wrestling is above all this.

so Prince, what you're trying to tell me is that Ronnie isn't natural? He doesn't get that way by eating a EAS protein bar post workout??? Oh my gosh, i've been misinformed the whole time.

Raiders suck this year, so they started to take steroids to make them "better". stop cheating raiders

shit i can't believe the Raiders lost again..this time by a field goal with only a few seconds left in the game

Yeah, you would figure with all the steroids they are taking they would win a game.

Nothing will happen with these players. If the league even attempted to ban them they would have so many lawyers on them they would cave. THG wasn't illegal when the samples where taken way back when. Even if it was, they would have to give it time to clear the system of people who took it before it was banned before they could start testing for it.
