Hi, it's me again with my question's !LOL!

I think this is an awesome question, Can a person drink to much water a day so that it can hurt their muscle ???
I drink maybe 2 galons a day not only because i have to for bodybuilding but just because i love water and i never leave my house without a bottle (seriously). Is that ok, or should i cut down on the water....

thats a whole lot of water.

no, but there is such a thing as water poisoning. not sure the exact numbers.

Yes you can overdose on water. Although rare, there is such a thing and there are several cases among athletes.

Its called hyponatraemic encephalopathy. Do a search and you should find something about it.

However, 2 gallons is not enough to cause those so you are fine.

Water is absolutely essential, especially if you are on a diet that is higher in sodium ie you use a lot of seasonings, consume a lot of egg whites or canned foods. I drink 2 gallons a day as well, don't sweat it, that's not even close to enough for you to experience any health problems other than frequent dashes to the washroom. Of course, to get into optimum ab-revealing shape would require use of diuretics and water manipulation, but I don't think you haev to worry about that unless you need to hit a competition up or something.

Peace.

Shit,I drink about 4 gallons a day when I am trying to drop my fat and I have to get up about 3 times in the middle of the night to take a leak! Seriously,I never thought about overdoing it on water...does anyone know if I am when I drink that much?

Posted by: Jodi

4 gallons is too much. You should not consume more than 2 gallons per day, unless your dropping water for competition and even then you rarely go above 10 L.

I drink 5-6 Liters per day.

I believe it was a 7 year old girl who was force fed 2.5 gallons in short order, and didn't live to see the end of the day thanks to brain swelling.

Lesser occurences would be draining electrolytes from the body.

The rule of thumb I heard was .66 x bodyweight (pounds) = ounces to consume daily

Posted by: EvilEdDanzig

.66 x bodyweight in lbs? for me that would be 156 ounces! is that right?

Posted by: EvilEdDanzig

sorry,186 ounces. my bad.

This very topic was in the last issue of Hardcore Muscle.

They said a good rule of thumb is to drink 1/3 your body weight in ounces. Say a 180 pound person should drink 60 ounces a day.

I weigh 281 lbs. offseason. When I am trying to drop weight, I up my water intake, more water in-more water out. I flush the excess out. I am hearing now that a magazine says I should only drink less than 100 ounces a day,and people here telling me under 200 ounces a day. Less than 2 gallons to decrease bodyfat and excess water retained from offseason living? I cannot believe what I am hearing. I drink up to TWICE what is recommended here when I am in the throes of bodyweight reduction.

Some water is of course in the foods you eat. Obviously the problems have been stated when consuming too much water. As for when you drink lesser amounts, the body will hold water to some degree, just like starvation mode the body will try to stubornly hold onto fat stores until the end.

128oz in a gallon.

Two years ago I was drinking close to 2 gallons a day and my PH balance was off. I got a bad case of yeast infection! I thought only pregnant women get yeast infections! I made several trips to the dermatologist and used several perscription creams and powers over several months to get rid of this persistant case. I'll stick with one gallon of water.

Oh man, try having to take a killer piss while stuck in staged decompression while wearing a drysuit. Bummer

Wasnt there a story on the news the other day of a college student that almost died from hazing? They force fed him like 5 gallons of water. Shuts your organs down or something?

I think 1 gallon of water spread evenly through the day should be more than enough. Doesn't drinking more water make you lose weight?

Posted by: EvilEdDanzig

That's my entire point. If I am trying to shed excess fat FAST, I drop off most of my carbs, and my diet changes to 1.5 g of protein per lb.,roughly 150 g of carbs daily, I do not watch my fat extremely closely,as I found it better to instinctively follow your body's need for how much fat to compensate for the loss of carbs, and I always make sure I drink at LEAST 2 gallons a day. Water becomes the ONLY beverage I take in. Even on a "cheat" or "off" day( which happens every 5th day to keep my metabolism high and adjusted to burning approx 5000 calories a day) I keep the water intake high. Now I am being told that, after 2 years of successful practice of this diet,I am wrong and putting myself in danger? Why would my doctor, who helped me develop this diet, have told me that this amount of water was too much?

Posted by: EvilEdDanzig

Also, all of these cases you guys are mentioning, the little girl, the college hazing shit, all of them were fed the water in a SHORT period of time. We're talking about spreading it over the course of the day.

that sucks man... lol

My point was that maybe you don't have to drink so much water, 2 gallons. I've been dropping a lot of weight (I'm at 72 kilograms, was 88 highest), drinking 1 gallon per day, at most. Why do more than is necessary to achieve your goals?

Posted by: EvilEdDanzig

Why not put forth a little bit more effort,go the extra mile, if it will get you to where you want/need to be faster? And what if you do nto have the leisure of time?
