I was jsut wondering why this is on the package instructions of every commercially-produced oat product...what is the functional purpose of the salt, anyway?

Peace.

I don't know, but I don't add anything except water.

Some people eat oats with salt and butter I think of it more as a sweet hot cereal oppose to a salty one. Something like grits I would consider with salt and butter but not Oats

Taste. Just a tiny tiny tiny amount of salt makes all the difference.

Plus it helps the water boil faster
